Disagree strongly with some other reviews
Revisado: 12-17-20
When l read some of the highly critical reviews of this book l was almost going to give it a pass. But l enjoyed the rest of the series so much that l decided to stay the course. l'm glad l did. Totally enjoyed it including all the ongoing banter beteeen Skippy and Bishop.

Narrator a real put off
Revisado: 09-15-20
Story good enough but after doing the Jack Noble series this narrator almost made me ditch this story 10 minutes in. Makes Noble and Riley sound like a couple of young teenager gang members who are absolutely full of themselves and just love violence and have terrible voices. The voice of the female character is another turn off. l persevered because it was background while l was working. Narrator irritating through the very end.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Cynic
Revisado: 11-03-18
l was a cynic put off by the title and thinking it was just one of those hard sell go for everything and don't give a fuck books.
i was very wrong and read it after a recommendation from a friend who thought it might be good for me given some stress l was enduring.
Great book giving me a different perspective on my issues.

Historia
Galway 1993: Young Garda Cormac Reilly is called to a scene he will never forget. Two silent, neglected children—15-year-old Maude and five-year-old Jack—are waiting for him at a crumbling country house. Upstairs, their mother lies dead. Twenty years later, a body surfaces in the icy black waters of the River Corrib. At first it looks like an open-and-shut case, but then doubt is cast on the investigation's findings—and the integrity of the police. Cormac is thrown back into the cold case that has haunted him his entire career—what links the two deaths, two decades apart?

Historia
Having inspired a classic film and Broadway play, The Caine Mutiny is Herman Wouk's boldly dramatic, brilliantly entertaining novel of life—and mutiny—on a Navy warship in the Pacific theater. It was immediately embraced upon its original publication as one of the first serious works of American fiction to grapple with the moral complexities and the human consequences of the Second World War. In the intervening half century, this gripping story has become a perennial favorite, selling millions throughout the world, and claiming the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

brilliant work
Revisado: 10-24-16
The story highlight the subtleties of harsh and oppressive conduct / decisions and decisions and conduct which provide evidence of mental illness.
The author demonstrates the frustrations and desperation of those witnessing behaviour and later trying to convey the full meaning and context of that behaviour when removed from the ship, and the risk in a catch 22 situation - You mutineed and the ship survived the tornado therefore you didn't need to mutiny ... if the ship had sunk and you had all died you would have been entitled to mutiny
So many grey lines, the context, tone of voice, body language and time of day and night all matters of critical importance to the "mutineers" - but being able to convey all these subtleties to people who were not there.
The author shows how readily 2 diametrically opposed perspectives on command can be drawn from the same words and conduct.
A masterpiece where the author takes no shortcuts in demonstrating the above and the thin, sometimes changing under pressure, dividing line between a mental illness and a harsh disciplinary regime.

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-22-16
I've read many / almost all of Brad Thor's work and while in any books of this genre you need to ignore the significant incorporation of actions which defy belief that was not the problem with the Athena Project. Of course the usual suspending belief was there.
The problem was with the endless petty dialogue between the heroines about romance or lack of it, men or lack of them, their mutual fan club for each other's good looks, etc.
These are supposed to be an elite hit squad on a mission to save life as we know it, but still the corny female gossip and chit chat can't take a break.
l stuck with it but definitely would not recommend it.

Greeat story BUT ...
Revisado: 09-04-15
l loved the story with its strands of plot around different characters. There was plenty of suspense as l felt there was no guarantee that the "good guys" would win nor all of their characters survive.
Far more realistic and credible than many books in its genre and highly recommended with ONE EXCEPTION.
I found the narratir's attempt to change her voice to represent different characters not just bad but appalling. For the early stages of the book l found it a big turnoff which made me angry as in "how the hell did she get this job?"
But the compelling storyline kept me there and while her character portrayal never improved l generally became desensitized to it.
