Historia
As Fanim war drums beat just outside the city, Empress Anasurimbor Esmenet searches frantically throughout the palace for her missing son, Kelmomas. Meanwhile, and many miles away, Esmenet's husband's Great Ordeal continues its epic march farther north. But in light of dwindling supplies, the Aspect-Emperor's decision to allow his men to consume the flesh of fallen Sranc could have consequences even he couldn't have foreseen.

A writer worthy of comparison to exalted greats
Revisado: 06-14-24
The quality of story never dips in this series, I just wish the reading was consistent. The original reader was OUTSTANDING, but the person they've chosen since the switch has been inconsistent, a little flat in delivery (especially for the more dramatic lines), and has occasional, tiny stumbles. Still a worthy reader. I've heard FAR worse.

Not one dull moment
Revisado: 09-27-23
Probably the most poignant and engrossing entry in the series, Children of Memory does great justice as it explores the many facets of what was left open in Children of Ruin.
The new characters are charming and uniquely intelligent, while old characters see beautiful development.
The mystery at the heart of this book has a conclusion that is satisfying and emotionally stimulating in grand and surprising ways.

Horrifying story and pretty okay reader
Revisado: 04-25-23
The reader has some strange pronunciations for words and the recording isn't as well polished as I'm used to, but the story is the cosmic horror you need if you're bored with middle aged white men in the 1910s wetting themselves because they had a bad dream and heard some disembodied voices.

Stumbled at the finish line of perfect.
Revisado: 11-30-20
The reading has a few amusing flaws, but nothing near being deal-breaking; 3-4 times, you can hear some editing errors where the reader was clicking to the next page or making small workspace adjustments between passages. The availability of viable candidates with a UK accent or the ability to convincingly emulate one must have been pretty dismal because the book is obviously written using a UK voice, yet an American reader was chosen whose accent work is, to put it kindly, limited. Still a great job was done in general.
The story, while excellent in most respects, requires a significant amount of patience, as one must sit through exhaustively described character backgrounds that ultimately have no real relevance to the events portrayed and could have been communicated through context and dialogue rather than paragraphs and paragraphs of exposition dumped on the audience all at once. You don't need to know the entire history of a troubled relationship or a single mother's financial challenges to understand that something awful is happening. The ending is well worth reaching, however.
Fans of Bloodborne will likely be pleased with this experience, and part of me wonders if it provided a large portion of inspiration to the author.

Five years ago Corin Cadence's brother entered the Serpent Spire - a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire's trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire's goddess. He never returned. Now it's Corin's turn. He's headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess.

Great story. However...
Revisado: 04-11-18
the voices the performer uses for some of the characters are a little cringey so the story gets a really strong sub-par YA feel at times, BUT the setting and story itself are pretty good with a creative magic system that feels very much like it belongs in a video game. Plenty of the voices are excellent though and the narrator does a good job besides my small gripes. Recommended for anyone looking for a light adventure reading with almost no tedious romance drama cluttering up the story.

A more than fine novel for fans of Carroll's work
Revisado: 05-08-17
The story is well crafted, plus the vision of the original characters is both pleasantly familiar and refreshing.
The nod to American McGee's Alice made me giddy, though.
