Historia
In April 1945, Soviet forces descended on Berlin in the final phase of the war in Europe. The fighting was fierce as soldiers fanatically loyal to the Nazi party - and those afraid of the vengeance their opponents might enact - sought to stave off the end of the regime as long as possible.

Title is a little misleading
Revisado: 09-08-24
This book is titled, "The Fall of Berlin" - yet the book spends only a portion of it's time on the battle of Berlin. I understand that there is a need to provide the context of the battle of Berlin with respect to German efforts on the other theatres of the war, but in my opinion, too much time was spent outside of Berlin itself and the immediate surrounding area. Because of this focus, the book does not provide a chronological account. Specific theatres of war are outlined chronologically, but then the next chapter will start with a different time period, which made it harder to put in context of other events.
With respect to the battle of Berlin itself, I expected more detail and more content. There was some first person accounts by higher ranks, but few made by ordinary foot soldiers and citizens.
With respect to the narrator, he did a good job, but made the curious choice of putting on various accents when quoting British and American accounts. However, German and Russian accounts were read with his usual voice. I understand and support the decision not to use German and Russian accents, if you can't do them properly. That would be really distracting, however, why do the British and American accents at all then?
In summary, the subtitle of this book, "The Final Days of Hitler's Evil Regime" would have made a better title than, "The Fall of Berlin". The book is definitely worth a listen. I learned a lot of new information from listening to the book. Other than my quips above, the narrator, did a fine job, and within chapters, the author set out cogent stories that moved along well.

Historia
Mikael Blomkvist is trying to reach Lisbeth Salander—the fierce, unstoppable girl with the dragon tattoo. He needs her help unraveling the identity of a man who died with Blomkvist's phone number in his pocket—a man who does not exist in any official records and whose garbled last words hinted at knowledge that would be dangerous to important people. But Lisbeth has disappeared. She's sold her apartment in Stockholm. She's gone dark. She's told no one where she is. And no one is aware that at long last she's got her primal enemy, her twin sister, Camilla, squarely in her sights.

Needs a different Narrator

I wanted to like this book but the narrator used a very bad falsetto for the female characters. This is unforgivable for a book with a lead female protagonist. I finished the book but cringed every time a female spoke. Probably a better read than an audiobook.

Historia
Five years ago, the US Space Force became a reality. And while those writing the checks took things very seriously, the other military branches did not. As a result, Space Force was populated by undesirables. My name is Captain Ethan Stone, a decorated member of SEAL Team Six turned Space Force "recruit". Flash forward five years and between tenses. President West is in office. Power has shifted. And Space Force is defunded. With just a handful of us still living on base, we find ourselves being evicted. But before all of us can leave, aliens invade.

Laugh out loud funny. Great performances by the voice actors. I hope that the author writes a sequel.

Historia
"Houston, we've had a problem here." On the evening of April 13, 1970, the three astronauts aboard Apollo 13 were just hours from the third lunar landing in history. But as they soared through space, two hundred thousand miles from earth, an explosion badly damaged their spacecraft. With compromised engines and failing life-support systems, the crew was in incomparably grave danger.

Revisado: 06-15-17
Great moment by moment re-accounting of the events but largely lacking in emotion or sense of story telling. I really enjoyed the book as I am a spaceflight fan, but this is not likely a good choice for those who only have a casual interest in the topic.

Mistitled Book
Revisado: 10-18-16
This book should have been titled: "America was never the same: Events that changed American History " This book which proports to be about world history takes an American slant on all events. It's not what I expected from the title of the book. This is the worst Great Courses book that I have read.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

Historia
The Arsenal of Democracy tells the incredible story of how Detroit answered the call, centering on Henry Ford and his tortured son Edsel, who, when asked if they could deliver 50,000 airplanes, made an outrageous claim: Ford Motor Company would erect a plant that could yield a “bomber an hour”. Critics scoffed: Ford didn’t make planes; they made simple, affordable cars. But bucking his father’s resistance, Edsel charged ahead.

Stay Away
Revisado: 03-03-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Not only was the book filled with hyperbole but the melodramatic delivery by the narrator made it even worse. It kind of made me feel like listening to a carnival barker selling snake oil. Both the author and the narrator overselling each point.
Has The Arsenal of Democracy turned you off from other books in this genre?
I love non fiction books and have bought many from audible but I've never been so turned off by both the book and the narrator.
Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Berkrot’s performances?
Nope. Unless he received bad direction from the producer that is. Personally if I had received direction like that I would have walked out of the studio. ...MORE COWBELL!!!
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Nice cover.
