Historia
Virginal, chaste, humble, patiently waiting for rescue by brave knights and handsome princes: this idealized—and largely mythical—notion of the medieval noblewoman still lingers. Yet the reality was very different, as Kelcey Wilson-Lee shows in this vibrant account of the five daughters of Edward I, often known as Longshanks. The lives of these sisters—Eleanora, Joanna, Margaret, Mary, and Elizabeth—ran the gamut of experiences open to royal women in the Middle Ages.

Lot's of speculation
Revisado: 04-03-25
I enjoyed the book as I knew nothing about these women. I did find there was more speculation than justified by the evidence given.

Too much technical military detail
Revisado: 01-29-21
I stopped reading because I got so tired of detailed descriptions of armor, weapons and battle strategy. Also, too much philosophy. I enjoyed the first four books of the series, but this is lagging more and more. I'll not continue.

Historia
I was so excited when Darcy announced out of the blue that we were flying to Kenya for our extended honeymoon. Now that we are here, I suspect he has actually been sent to fulfill another secret mission. I am trying very hard not to pick a fight about it, because after all, we are in paradise! Darcy finally confides that there have been robberies in London and Paris. It seems the thief was a member of the aristocracy and may have fled to Kenya. Since we are staying in the Happy Valley, we are well positioned to hunt for clues and ferret out possible suspects.

Outstanding reader
Revisado: 06-28-18
The stories in this series are imaginative, compelling and entertaining. However they are especially enhanced by the expertise of the reader. Her voicing of the the various characters is individual and the accents are great. Haven't heard such a good reader since Jim Dale of Harry Potter fame.

Personal relationships unrealistic
Revisado: 08-01-17
The first part, when the time travelers were in Barbados was okay. When they returned I almost didn't finish the book because the romantic relationships were so unrealistic and strained.

Historia
It's 1864 in downtrodden Lowell, Massachusetts. The Civil War has taken its toll on the town - leaving the economy in ruin and its women in dire straits. That is, until Asa Mercer arrives on a peculiar, but providential, errand: he seeks high-minded women who can exert an elevating influence in Seattle, where there are ten men for every woman. Mail-order brides, yes, but of a certain caliber.

Like the history but writing is a little mundane
Revisado: 02-06-17
The character development was good, but the story was a bit "Cowboys and Indians." I did like the afterword about the historical sources for the story.

Too violent, but compelling
Revisado: 04-11-14
Any additional comments?
I picked Divergent from the audible.com listing without knowing about the movie or anything else about it, including that it was a young adult series. My first impression was that it was a too violent, dystopian story like Hunger Games. And it is. And, like Hunger Games, I couldn't quit until I'd read the whole trilogy straight through. Unlike Hunger Games, it stays in my mind several days after I finished it. I can't explain why.
