Historia
Fell is the Hand of Darkness, a relic of great evil. Seeking to rob the powers of Chaos of this relic and bend fate to the favour of order, Yvraine of the Ynnari and the mysterious yet deadly Visarch lead a host of Aeldari on a quest to steal it. To reach it, however, they must first beseech the aid of the Black Library. Only then will Yvraine and her warriors have even the slightest chance to slip through the Garden of Nurgle and from there to the Plague Planet and the Whispering Tower of Mortarion, where the Hand of Darkness surely resides.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Historia
To take a skeptical approach to American history is not to dabble in imaginative conspiracy theories; rather, it's to reframe your understanding of this great nation's past and actually strengthen your appreciation for what makes American history such a fascinating chapter in the larger story of Western civilization. And in this bold 24-lecture series, you can do just that.

Great performance, pretty good book
Revisado: 02-15-14
I'm a fan of Scott Lynch's setting and story. I have some issues with plot choice. I'd prefer more scam and less piracy. The performance is great.

Historia
Stealth. Gorgon. Regenerator. Cerberus. Zzzap. The Mighty Dragon. They were heroes. Vigilantes. Crusaders for justice, using their superhuman abilites to make Los Angeles a better place. Then the plague of living death spread around the globe. Despite the best efforts of the superheroes, the police, and the military, the hungry corpses rose up and overwhelmed the country. The population was decimated, heroes fell, and the city of angels was left a desolate zombie wasteland like so many others.

Terrible
Revisado: 10-25-13
The only thing that saves this audio book is a good performance by the narrators. The material itself is just awful. Full of inconsistencies, bad dialogue and illogical character decisions, Ex Heroes wrecks what could have been a cool world. I really, really enjoyed Peter Clines's "14". Ex Heroes is not up to par.
Here's an example of bad writing that stuck with me: I'm paraphrasing here, but it went something like, "The monster punched him into the air, but only for a minute.' A minute? He hit him so hard he was airborne for 60 seconds? Is he halfway to San Francisco when he lands? That's just poor word choice, but there are many more instances like that through the book.
The poor character logic is probably the worst part. One guy has the power of a small star at his command, but doesn't like to burn zombies because it's "icky." WTF? Get out there and light them up! Why are you not burning zombies 24/7?
Anyway, it is what it is and it's terrible.

This is book is "not very good."
Revisado: 08-05-13
I feel bad for Oliver Wyman having to perform this book. He did a good job with some truly bad material. The characters are cliche, the story is predictable. It's gun porn and the most banal action hero nonsense. The main character describes himself as perfectly normal... and then you find out he's an underground pit fighter, bouncer, marksmen with a fetish for guns. You know, like everyone else. Also, he's the latest in a long line of the "chosen ones" from every book since Odyssues. I was fooled by the rave reviews, but this book is terrible.

Historia
The Scavenger species are circling. It is, truly, provably, the End Days for the Gzilt civilization. An ancient people, organized on military principles and yet almost perversely peaceful, the Gzilt helped set up the Culture 10,000 years earlier and were very nearly one of its founding societies, deciding not to join only at the last moment. Now they've made the collective decision to follow the well-trodden path of millions of other civilizations; they are going to Sublime, elevating themselves to a new and almost infinitely more rich and complex existence.

Not the best Culture book, but Peter Kenney continues to deliver. If you are a fan of the Culture series, you will enjoy this book, but it's not the best of the series. The audio performance is as good as ever by Peter Lenney.

Historia
The man known as Cheradenine Zakalwe was one of Special Circumstances' foremost agents, changing the destiny of planets to suit the Culture through intrigue, dirty tricks, and military action. The woman known as Diziet Sma had plucked him from obscurity and pushed him toward his present eminence, but despite all their dealings she did not know him as well as she thought. The drone known as Skaffen-Amtiskaw knew both of these people. It had once saved the woman's life by massacring her attackers in a particularly bloody manner. It believed the man to be a lost cause.

Great book, great perfomance
Revisado: 06-21-13
I love the Culture series by Iain Banks and I love Peter Kenny's performance. Banks's world is interesting, fun and a little scary. Peter Kenny does a masterful job voicing a wide range of characters. The twin story lines, one unfolding in reverse, is a little confusing at times via audiobook and I wonder if it would have been easier to read. Despite that, I really enjoyed the story and the delivery.
