Historia
There is no better guide than Paul Krugman to basic economics, the ideas that animate much of our public policy. Likewise, there is no stronger foe of zombie economics, the misunderstandings that just won’t die. In Arguing with Zombies, Krugman tackles many of these misunderstandings, taking stock of where the United States has come from and where it’s headed in a series of concise, digestible chapters. Drawn mainly from his popular New York Times column, they cover a wide range of issues, organized thematically and framed in the context of a wider debate.

On Target - Focused "Where we are and goiing"
Revisado: 07-02-21
I enjoy Krugman and agree with his economic understanding, very Keynesian. In this day of too many opinions and a race to add another different one that just muddies the water, he clearly defines where we have been, where we are and where we should be going. There are as many economic opinions as there are economists and mostly tend to be wrong at our expense of doing the wrong things when the economy is disrupted. How often do we see after a turnaround a grading system of what all the economic pundits prescribed and how were they right or wrong? - I don't recall ever seeing one.
Journalism fails us on this count and so we don't know who to trust. Our country is at war within itself and we tend to accept only partial solutions that are only partially right and get a partially right outcome. Isn't it time that we got some truly solid opinions like Krugman's, try them and then grade him Our politicians are just that "politicians" and we have been accepting their untruths for too long. Google 2 def: "a person who acts in a manipulative and devious way, typically to gain advancement within an organization." Television news has corrupted our thinking into "sound bits and headlines with little substance but lots of opinions. Reading matters, listening to good information matters.

Historia
The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking. Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains....

Well researched of what we are about and what we do.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Thinking, Fast and Slow?
That we are obstinate in our answers intuitively and refuse often to accept the facts.

Disappointment
Revisado: 04-21-08
Didn't expect any secrets. Author keeps alluding to how he is outling the book and then goes off on a tangent. If you are interested in Buffett quotations, there are plenty. Lots of big financial figures thrown around if you are interested. Guess I didn't know what my expectations were so I can't complain about that.

Historia
Abridged edition: In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Historia
Stone Barrington hasn't heard from his cousin, Dick Stone, in years, though he has fond memories of a teenage summer spent at his house in Maine. But then the CIA's Lance Cabot interrupts an otherwise pleasant meal at Elaine's with the news of Dick's death, apparently by his own hand. It seems that Dick Stone, a quiet family man who doubled as a CIA agent, methodically executed his wife, daughter, and then himself...or did he?

When scholars write the history of the world 20 years from now, and they come to the chapter "Y2K to March 2004", what will they say was the most crucial development? The attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11 and the Iraq war? Or the convergence of technology and events that allowed India, China, and so many other countries to become part of the global supply chain for services and manufacturing?

The future of business
Revisado: 12-22-05
Friedman has done an excellent job of researching the leveling of the playing field through the economic phenomenon of very cheap telecommunications throughout the world tying our economies closer together and allowing for cost reduction through exporting jobs that can be done faster, better and cheaper by others. This is reported by a reporter, factual and describes accurately the future of businesses that can export functions. A little Gee whiz, but good information.
