Used bookshops often have a cat or two roaming the aisles, sleeping on the shelves, or sleeping on the customers. Here is a novel all about one bookshop and its resident cats, Stomper and Buglit; and about Kris, a 12-year-old boy who apprentices in the shop. Kris is a little bit like the cats: he's a foster child getting used to a new family, and the cats are being fostered in the bookshop for the local shelter.

When we started writing this book, I wasn't quite sure what it was going to be about. I knew I wasn't the story but there is a very good story here. The lessons I have learned from this strange cat fame journey, are just too good not to share. When I found Sticky, the world was an angry place. It was such an angry place, that multiple cars sped right over a kitten on a roadway on an early Friday morning, without even slowing down.

Strong story of strong women – and their strong attachments to and advocacy for the animals they save and love! I was initially attracted to this book because of the animals and the location, where I grew up. I would have loved it even if it didn’t turn out that I went to school with the author’s sister. I highly recommend this remarkable, inspiring memoir. Thank you, Laurie, for sharing your heartbreaking and heartwarming story. Can’t wait to visit the Funny Farm in person!

I really enjoyed learning about Michael Oher and the Tuohys, but if I had known how much hard-core football discussion and description was included, I don’t know that I would’ve chosen to read it. I wanted more people, less game strategy.
