one of the best I've listened to.
Revisado: 09-10-22
This book is beautifully written, and it juxtapositions the violence and unpredictability in nature with violence created deliberately by humans and with the internal mental war within the mind of a person who has suffered violent loss. Reflections on love, justice and the courage to go on, the people and experiences that shape who a person becomes. I loved it. highly recommended. But some intense material. I'm glad to discover this author.

wild ride
Revisado: 08-23-22
So many reviewers criticized Harry's frequent pondering of the morality of his actions. That's sort of the point of the whole book. How does one actively fight against evil and still maintain one's own goodness? Can one protect others while honoring their strength and autonomy? What does honesty in our dealings with others require of us? How does one set oneself up in a role that is viewed as unacceptable or weird by others but feels true to oneself? The book is not just a frivolous story about supernatural beings. it's asking some big questions. I thought the story maybe had too many permutations, but remained interesting. BTW, I especially liked Bob.

Mason "Mace" Perry was a firebrand cop on the D.C. police force until she was kidnapped and framed for a crime. She lost everything-her badge, her career, her freedom-and spent two years in prison. Now she's back on the outside and focused on one mission: to be a cop once more. Her only shot to be a true blue again is to solve a major case on her own, and prove she has the right to wear the uniform.

Revisado: 07-28-22
I appreciate Baldacci experimenting with novel plots like this. Hes a fine writer. Some of the legal wrap ups were a bit unlikely. My main problem was finding the principal protagonist really annoying.

Historia
Temperance Brennan, forensic anthropologist for both North Carolina and Quebec, has come from Charlotte to Montreal during the bleak days of December to testify as an expert witness at a murder trial. She should be going over her notes, but instead she's digging in the basement of a pizza parlor. Not fun. Freezing cold. Crawling rats. And now, the skeletonized remains of three young women. How did they get there? When did they die?

interesting complicated plot
Revisado: 07-12-22
Unlike many readers here, I liked the character and personality of Temperence Brennan in the books and the depth of analytic description and plot in the books much better than the Bones TV series, which had kind of predictable flat characters. These mysteries are gripping and at times hard to take how gritty they are.

only problem I had with it was telling all the resolutions of plot lines in a quick summary in an epilogue at the end rather then weaving them into the story. But the plot was intriguing.

Good Writer, mediocre narrator.
Revisado: 06-11-22
The voice that narrator William Defris created for Joe Gunther was so grating and clown-like that it made the whole book painful to listen to, also Joe was lacking in any genuine, believable emotional expression. ive listened to most of the series. Joe by any other narrators is an enormously sympathetic character. I'm sorry I didn't quit and return the book for that reason alone. Defris other characters were --OK -- but emotions didn't vary a lot.

Historia
“Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County, the fictional setting of many of John Grisham’s unforgettable stories. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. He’s called upon to help an old friend, Mack Stafford, a former lawyer in Clanton, who three years earlier became a local legend when he stole money from his clients, divorced his wife, filed for bankruptcy, and left his family in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again—until now. Now Mack is back, and he’s leaning on his old pals, Jake and Harry Rex, to help him return. His homecoming does not go as planned.

3 stories mixed reaction
Revisado: 06-05-22
The three stories explore the role of criminality, when present in rather average people who get caught in their own misdeeds while still having personal traits of normalcy and goodness. I liked the first two stories, Homecoming and Strawberry Moon very much and was especially touched by Cole in Strawberry Moon. I did not enjoy the third story, Sparring Partners. it relied more on the traits of foolishness and stupidity or ruthlessness and conniving in the main characters, so I had trouble feeling sympathetic to anyone.

Revisado: 06-03-22
struggled to finish. skipped ahead several chapters to check the ending because it seemed interminable in the middle. I really liked another one ofCrais books, but this was a let down. other reviewers blamed the narration, maybe that was part of the problem but I got bored, the story seemed stuck in one place through the middle.

Three very different books.
Revisado: 05-28-22
I enjoyed the first two books, rather involved who dunnit mysteries, complicated plots, likable good guy characters, unique villains and motivations. I can't stand the third novel which is why the 3 star rating overall. it's endless and unpleasant and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I'm quitting after 10 chapters in the 3rd book and I almost always finish mysteries. Ugh.
