Historia
No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story...until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Thrilling Mystery
Revisado: 09-18-19
A gripping mystery with a very unique angle. The Answer to the Question is a fanciful, creepy, yet deliciously feasible "reality".

Fascinating
Revisado: 08-26-19
Although I've long heard of Patterson, this is the first book of his I've ever read. So complex and well-crafted! Well-deserved reputation.
All good thrillers have surprise endings, but the climax of this one took me totally by surprise! Bravo!

A man is dead, shot three times in his home office. But his computer has been shot twelve times, and when the cops arrive, his pregnant wife is holding the gun. D. D. Warren arrives on the scene and recognizes the woman - Evie Carter - from a case many years back. Evie's father was killed in a shooting that was ruled an accident. But for D.D., two coincidental murders is too many. Flora Dane sees the murder of Conrad Carter on the TV news and immediately knows his face. She remembers a night when she was still a victim - a hostage - and her captor knew this man.

Fun that Ms. Gardner brought back previous characters--victims as well as cops. Similar to a "Where are They Today" article from People magazine, but in book form. And with new crimes to unravel, of course. Very satisfying read!

Tami Hoag is Simply Brilliant
Revisado: 06-11-19
I read "The Boy" first since it just came out. It is the second in this particular series. This book is the first, but was written 22 years ago.
I am often hesitant to read an author's early works, because
It often takes years for their writing to mature.
Not at all in this case. This first book could have been written in 2017. It is very rich. The plot is amazing and the character development deep and nuanced.
Ms. Hoag is an astute observer and understands human nature to a tee.
Kudos and many thanks.

Historia
When a grisly murder occurs on the Isle of Lewis that bears similarities to a brutal killing on the mainland, Edinburgh detective Fin Macleod is dispatched to the Outer Hebrides to investigate, embarking at the same time on a voyage into his own troubled past. As Fin reconnects with the people and places of his tortured childhood, the beautiful island and its ancient customs once again begin to assert their grip on his psyche. Every step toward solving the case brings Fin closer to a confrontation with the dark events of the past that shaped - and nearly destroyed - his life.

Wow!
Revisado: 03-10-19
There are no words to describe the depth and breadth of this work. Stunning!
It's actually several books at once. A murder mystery, coming-of-age story, deep dive into Scottish culture on an isolated island and high adventure.
My hat's off to the author!

It is a cold January morning, and Shetland lies beneath a deep layer of snow. Trudging home, Fran Hunter's eye is drawn to a splash of color on the frozen ground, ravens circling above. It is the strangled body of her teenage neighbor, Catherine Ross. The locals on the quiet island stubbornly focus their gaze on one man - loner and simpleton Magnus Tait.

AMAZING
Revisado: 02-02-19
I'm a fan of TV detective series located in Great Britain. When I heard this author wrote the books upon which "Shetland" is based, I was excited.
This novel greatly exceeded my already positive expectations. What a master!
The plot is so intricate. There are many plausible suspects. The book leaves one guessing up to the very last second.
Everything falls perfectly into place after the reveal. Its genius is stunning. I feel Tana French is the only other author who is equally brilliant.
I am thrilled. Endorphins are popping!

This a gripping, faced-paced thriller. I loved the complex plot and diabolical villain(s) who are paradoxically empathetic figures. Excellent read!

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

In the summer of 1985, when she was fifteen, Eliza was kidnapped by Walter and held hostage for almost six weeks. He had killed at least one girl and Eliza always suspected he had other victims as well. Now on death row in Virginia for the rape and murder of his final victim, Walter seems to be making a heartfelt act of contrition as his execution nears. Though Eliza wants nothing to do with him, she's never forgotten that Walter was most unpredictable when ignored.

EXCELLENT
Revisado: 11-20-18
Fascinating, nuanced. Loved the way one story was told from four characters' points of view. "Everyone is the hero of their own story," is skillfully illustrated via such a device. We all mistake our own subjectivity for the single absolute truth. This theme is deftly explored. I loved it

Excuse the pun...what a novel novel! Lots of balls in the air. A masterful interweaving of many characters and subplots. (Each its own finely drawn and complete little vignette.)
Plus a surprising, thrilling ending! Very delicious...with promises of more to come.
