Historia
On his second combat tour, Nick Brokhausen served in Recon Team Habu, CCN. This unit was part of MACV-SOG (Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observations Group), or Studies and Observations Group as it was innocuously called. The small recon companies that were the center of its activities conducted some of the most dangerous missions of the war, infiltrating areas controlled by the North Vietnamese in Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The companies never exceeded more than 30 Americans, yet they were the best source for the enemy's disposition.

Not my cup of tea.
Revisado: 04-19-25
I listen to a lot of audiobooks- The narrator definitely was not top tier. I stopped listening to this during the first chapter. The author was more focused on humor and catchy one-liners. I did not return this simply for the fact that respect Nick’s service to our country. He’s a true hero.

Totally surprised, great book
Revisado: 07-12-23
When I saw that this was self-narrated, I was skeptical- that rarely ever works. But Eddie did a great job. There were times when his voice was quivering as he fought the emotion. He was also very frank about what it was like to kill the enemy. He didn’t pull any punches and was very transparent. This man has my full respect. Not only as a soldier, but as a man of God.

This audiobook was well written and well narrated, by the author himself. I have a ton of audiobooks in my library, and this ranks as one of the best. I binged listened to it, and was bummed when it was over.

Listened it twice
Revisado: 02-13-19
If you like brutally honest war books, then you’ll like Ed Eaton’s “in your face” story telling. He is not an educated writer, but there is something about his rudimentary writing style that was refreshing and to the point. I never bored listening to it and laughed out loud at times. The narrator was ok - I think the actual overall production is what was lacking. Regardless, I listened to this twice.

Historia
All of us long to know what life after death will be like. Best-selling author John Burke is no exception. In Imagine Heaven, Burke compares over 100 gripping stories of near-death experiences (NDEs) to what Scripture says about our biggest questions of heaven: Will I be myself? Will I see friends and loved ones? What will heaven look like? What is God like? What will we do forever? What about children and pets?

Great book, but narrator wasn’t so good
Revisado: 01-11-19
I gave the performance 2 stars - I just didn’t like how the narrator tried the change his voice for the various individuals, he was way over acting. Very few people can actually pull that off. I ended ip buying the hardback to read.
This book contains interviews from people that are in other countries and other religions. The author ties almost everything these people encountered with biblical scripture. And he is correct in doing so. Yes, I am a practicing Christian. But I am very objective. As a teenager I would attempt to debate my mother about “Jesus being the only way. What about remote peoples that have never been able to hear about Christ?”. She responded that Jesus is the only way, but all will be judged on the truth that they have had the opportunity to hear. “God has a backup plan for those folks. I just don’t know what it is”. He desires for all to be saved. He knows that won’t happen, for he will never over ride free will. But he is desperate for all of us. This book really backs this up. See for yourself and examine the scriptures.

I've read all the positive reviews and I know this is a great story written by a great American.
But I just never could get into it - the narrator was pretty boring, but maybe it was just me.

At first glance Gabriel Cardona is the poster-boy American teenager: great athlete, bright, handsome, and charismatic. But the streets of his border town of Laredo, Texas, are poor and dangerous, and it isn't long before Gabriel abandons his promising future for the allure of the Zetas, a drug cartel with roots in the Mexican military. His younger friend, Bart, as well as others from Gabriel's childhood join him in working for the Zetas, boosting cars and smuggling drugs, eventually catching the eye of the cartel's leadership.

I actually enjoyed this audio-book. The author definitely did his homework, and the narrator was great.
There was a lot of info and a lot of names - I kind of had a hard time keeping up with everything.

Historia
In War for the Hell of It, Cobleigh shares his perspectives in a deeply personal account of a fighter pilot's life, one filled with moral ambiguity and military absurdities offset by the undeniable thrill of flying a fighter plane. With well-crafted prose that puts you into his Phantom's cockpit, Cobleigh vividly recounts the unexplainable loss of his wingman, the useless missions he flew, the need to trust his reflexes, eyesight, aggressiveness, and his survival instincts in the heat of combat.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

There are many more thoughtful reviews here for you. I will just say that this was a great story and the narrator is one the best I've ever heard.
Most of the time when a narrator tries to use specific voices for certain characters, it comes across as cheesy or over-acting. But this Craig Wasson guy is just off the charts good.

Historia
Raw, straightforward, and powerful, Ed Kugler's account of his two years as a Marine scout-sniper in Vietnam vividly captures his experiences there - the good, the bad, and the ugly. After enlisting in the Marines at 17, then being wounded in Santo Domingo during the Dominican crisis, Kugler arrived in Vietnam in early 1966. As a new sniper with the 4th Marines, Kugler picked up bush skills while attached to 3d Force Recon Company, and then joined the grunts.

Any additional comments?
I just read some negative reviews on Amazon by readers of this book and I have copied my same review below:
The important thing about this review is the fact that I listened to the audio book. I have seen some reviews that are critical of Kuler's writing style and what scholars would point out as literary flaws - and I would tend to agree if I would have read the book. But, listening to the audio really brought out things in this book that I would have missed otherwise. There was a lot of back-and-forth dialogue in this book and I love that way that Kugler wrote it the way that they actually spoke to each other. I come from a construction crew background and I understand the raunchy and profane language that is used in that environment. So, it was kind of refreshing to hear a book that was written this way and I truly believe it was done by design. I have also read reviews that criticize how flippant he seemed to be about killing. Well.....welcome to the world of being a sniper. People in war actually make light of death to help them deal with it at the time and Kugler is no exception. He has no regrets, no PTSD, or bad dreams about the war. He actually looks back on his time in the war with fondness. I would expect nothing less from a Marine.
