Historia
This is a story about two teens falling in love over a summer that throws everything possible to keep them apart. Max: Chill. Sports. Gay and not a big deal. And a secret: An encounter with an older kid that makes it hard to breathe, one that he doesn't want to think about, ever. Jordan: The opposite of chill. Poetry. His "wives" and the Chandler Mall. Never been kissed and searching for Mr. Right, who probably won't like him anyway. And a secret: A spiraling out of control mother, and the knowledge that he's the only one who can keep the family from falling apart.

Historia
When her whole life collapsed, Rae still had books. Dying, she seizes a second chance at living: a magical bargain that lets her enter the world of her favorite fantasy series. She wakes in a castle on the edge of a hellish chasm, in a kingdom on the brink of war. Home to dangerous monsters, scheming courtiers and her favourite fictional character: the Once and Forever Emperor. He’s impossibly alluring, as only fiction can be. And in this fantasy world, she discovers she's not the heroine, but the villainess in the Emperor's tale.

trashy title, great story
Revisado: 03-16-25
I was really quite surprised that I liked this book. I think I bought it because it was the daily special or something. I was afraid it was just going to be over the top silly fantasy that tries to be amusing and comical; however, I was surprised it was sarcastic, cynical and sometimes amusing but not saccharine. I was also afraid the book in a book device would get old quickly, again, oddly it didn't. So I am looking forward to the sequel.

Historia
Raised in the wilderness by her late great-uncle, Vida is a young woman with an almost preternatural affinity for nature, especially for the wolves that also call the forested mountains home. Formed by hard experience, by love and loss, and by the prophecies of a fortuneteller, Vida just wants peace. If only nearby Kettleton County didn’t cast such a dark shadow.

good guys bad guys better animals
Revisado: 02-23-25
Each time I read one of his books, I know I will encounter brave humans. loyal dogs, mystical wolves and just enough other worldliness to keep me happy. And of course, there will be bad guys: filthy rich bad guys, poor bad guys, and just confused bad guys. But there's usually one redemption surrounded by lots of death. There is always going to be just a little tiny bit of politics. that confuses me. I was quite surprised when he expressed an absolute repugnance at wind power, calling it "bird killing machines". it's been a long time, if ever, since I heard someone say out loud that nuclear power is cleaner than wind power. But I am always thrilled by his commitment to the natural world and things beyond our normal awareness. Yes, I will continue reading his books. Yes I will continue enjoying them. And yes, I will often shake my head at certain things that happen in the books. But who wants to read something that is exactly what you would think. We read to have new experiences, to disagree, to ponder. And although it is not great literature, this book will make you think just a bit, just a bit, perhaps just enough.

Historia
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

good old adventure story
Revisado: 12-17-24
Stephen King returns to his tried and true narrative of the good young kid who faces horrible adult problems from adults. A nice, unbelievable, but believable story about saving the world, destroying the world, and friendship. Classic Stephen King read it for pleasure and a bit of suspense, even though we all know it's going to end up just fine.

Historia
When their ex-boyfriends get together and start Instagramming a disgustingly perfect summer of love, Jack and Nate decide to concoct a mutual Insta-worthy summer adventure of their own to prove they’re just fine and everything’s great. Of course, it’s hard to have an epic summer road trip when they’re stuck in a van with Nate's mid-life crisis-bound parents and his annoying younger sister. And it’s been years since Jack and Nate have said more than a few sentences to each other. But their followers don’t have to know any of that.

adorable know the end at the beginning story
Revisado: 10-18-24
Sure, you will know the conclusion of the book by the second line it seems. Nonetheless, do continue on; The lovely trip is more than worth it. using a plot vehicle as old as the Odyssey, we follow our two young polar opposites on a trip through an England you might never have heard of or seen. we experience a society in which young gay people seem to be both accepted and rejected simultaneously, and our young protagonists experience both. with a bit of cute social commentary on the vapid social media environment and some charming if stereotypical characters, we wait for the inevitable happen and cheer when it does. The narration is quite fun and good except occasionally. Jack, who is 16 sounds a bit more like 24 but but Nate is appropriately laconic and afraid. waiting for the time to bloom. I do hope there are other books by the author. this one gave me several hours of pure guiltless pleasure. thanks

sweet, nice trek across America with a mission story
Revisado: 09-30-24
I enjoy a sweet story now and then. not high literature but lovely. entertaining and just enough tension to keep me interested. I enjoy it when characters make stupid decisions and you're like, why did you do that? and then they have to figure out how they live with their stupid decisions. somewhat predictable post-catastrophe post-broken world syndrome but still nice. appealing but flawed characters who make us want to watch them grow. ending was a little too okay, let's wrap it up and tie a bow for me, but it was worth the read. thanks!

Historia
Valentine Weis is a salvager in the future wastelands of Utah. Wrestling with body dysphoria, he dreams of earning enough money to afford citizenship in Salt Lake City—a utopia where the testosterone and surgery he needs to transition are free, the food is plentiful, and folks are much less likely to be shot full of arrows by salt pirates. But earning that kind of money is a pipe dream until he meets the exceptionally handsome Osric.

Good until the last 20 minutes
Revisado: 09-06-24
I enjoyed the conversation. a lot of tone of this novel which involves alternate life and trans characters. although the main characters were nicely done, many of the supporting characters were rather superficial and almost caricatures. nonetheless, I enjoyed the book until the last 15-20 minutes. when as often happens, it felt as though the author just said okay. time to close. I've written enough words. goodbye and the book was finished.

For Balthazar and his family of thieves, stealing a statue during the annual celebration of the god Karanis was just a good bit of fun…or a way to stick it to the governor who murdered his parents. And yeah, the small fortune in reward doesn’t hurt—even if his boss also hired the mysterious Queen of Days to join the crew as “the weapon of last resort...”

good start can't finish
Revisado: 07-26-24
although this book was off to a good start, which I always enjoy by hour 12, I was bored senseless + lost interest in the story completely. the only reason I kept listening was the narrator was pretty good but I finally stopped with about 3 and 1/2 hours still to go because I just lost track of the story because it was so tedious. sorry
