Historia
In the near future, a civil servant is offered the salary of her dreams and is, shortly afterward, told what project she’ll be working on. A recently established government ministry is gathering “expats” from across history to establish whether time travel is feasible—for the body, but also for the fabric of space-time.

This is an unusual plot line- convoluted and delicious. It keeps you guessing while being fascinated by the various people yanked out of the past. Well worth the read. The authors facile ability with language is a marvel.

Historia
A thousand years have passed since a dragon has been seen in the world. Science and technology have replaced magic, which has dwindled until it has become little more than an element of myth and legend. There are those who still have dragon blood flowing through their veins, distant descendants of the mighty creatures of old. These rare humans have the power to cast magic, the power to heal, and the power to craft alchemical weapons capable of starting wars...or ending them.

The flattest, least skilled narrator I’ve ever listened to. Can’t pronounce a mid-word T, every male character sounds the same and the flattest inflection I’ve ever heard.

Historia
A lyrical and authentic book that recounts the story of a border-town family in Brownsville, Texas in the 1980s, as each member of the family desperately tries to assimilate and escape life on the border to become "real" Americans, even at the expense of their shared family history. This is really un-mined territory in the memoir genre that gives in-depth insight into a previously unexplored corner of America.

Revisado: 12-12-23
At first he was very funny then I realized that I had been pulled deeply into his story with his humor. Things got serious then. An excellent story teller and very excellent performance. I feel privy to a way of life I would never have been aware of. Im honored. Thank you.

Historia
Sometimes in medicine the only way to know what is truly going on in a patient is to operate, to look inside with one's own eyes. This audio is exploratory surgery on medicine itself, laying bare a science not in its idealized form, but as it actually is - complicated, perplexing, and profoundly human. Atul Gawande offers an unflinching view from the scalpel's edge, where science is ambiguous, information is limited, the stakes are high. In dramatic and revealing stories of patients and doctors, he explores how deadly mistakes occur and why good surgeons go bad.

This book at first was a little too graphic for my taste, but as it proceeded, it gave me an inside view of a physicians mind. Something I have wondered about most of my life, having had many odd illnesses and major injuries excellent performance too. He is an outstanding narrator.

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Exquisitely written and exquisitely narrated.
Revisado: 04-24-22
The love and compassion in this readers voice carried me through a most poignant, wrenching and beautiful story of the years of World War II. We must never forget history. The dark deeds that we perpetrated on one another. Should never ever be forgotten lest they be repeated. I admire the author‘s vision in wresting this remarkable story from the arms of our remarkably dire past. He deserves 10 stars at the very least.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Lyrical beauty
Revisado: 09-30-20
This book took me far away... the readers were exceptional - vulnerable, human. It was as if I were sitting at the side of a new friend, hearing their story for the first time. I was especially captured by the authors use of me, the listener/reader. She pulled me into the story, made me see and love all of the characters, made me a part of all that went on. I will listen to this book again for the simplicity and beauty of the prose. Bravo to Ms. Segovia. A memorable and transporting story.

Historia
Set in Arco, Idaho, in 1970, Val Brelinski’s powerfully affecting first novel tells the story of three sisters: Young Frances, gregarious and strong-willed Jory, and moral-minded Grace. Their father, Oren, is a respected member of the community and science professor at the local college. Yet their mother’s depression and Grace’s religious fervor threaten the seemingly perfect family, whose world is upended when Grace returns from a missionary trip to Mexico and discovers she’s pregnant with - she believes - the child of God.

Slow reading and unusual story
Revisado: 08-31-15
The reader was very slow and the story seemed to drag at points. I appreciated the reminder of what it was like to see the world through 14 year old eyes. So glad I don't have to live her life!
