Historia
The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?

Best of Sanderson! Perfect intro to the Cosmere! True gold in literature!
Revisado: 11-22-24
I am telling everyone about this book! It's perfect for those who have been enjoying the Cosmere for years or those who are entering in for the first time!
This book is like a warm hug from a good friend and then enjoying a scrumptious warm drink in hand on a crisp cool day where your literal job is to do nothing but breathe and enjoy the world.
That's what this book makes me feel like.
It's lighthearted, excellent storytelling, narration is (of course) sublime.
Tress is what any listener would hope for in a heroine. And it's not all "girl-bossy" either. It's genuine and funny and so so good. I laughed a loud many times! (to the strange looks of those around me ;)
And I literally can't wait to read it again! The ending was well executed and I wish there would be more Tress adventures!
I will also be heading to my local bookstore to get a copy! I only get my favorite audiobooks in hard copy.
Thank you, Brandon, for sharing this gift! When my son is older, I can't wait to read it aloud to him!

A Truly Magnificent Series
Revisado: 10-26-21
Update: Love this series even more with the second listen through!!!
The writing style is brilliant, the words are SO good, I love how the author describes things! and Imogen Chiru is an excellent narrator! The ways she creates so many characters with her voice is excellent. SUCH A GOOD READ!
_________________________
I am an avid audiobook listener. I feel either deeply grateful for a wonderful book, or deeply insulted by a horrible (or lazy) one. Similarly if the narration is grating to listen to it severely lacking - let me assure too that THIS series is WONDERFUL!
•
The Nine Realms Series is a brilliantly built story, so lovely that I couldn't stop listening! I listened to one book after the other, I couldn't stop!!
I finished the whole series in a week and two days!
I absolutely loved this series, and if you love excellent story telling, brilliant narration, and captivating worlds, this series is for you.
I especially loved the detailed world building that the author created, and by the end I felt enraptured by all the beautiful perspectives that culminated into a deep and fulfilling story.
A reviewer said the different perspectives were strange to get used to, but I think the various perspectives added a brilliant stroke of narration, and Imogen Church gives new voices that are easy to learn and catch on to. She is so incredibly talented!!
Hint: listen carefully for the city or region named and you'll know whose story you're following. Easy :)
I was also shocked during some parts of the story, saddened at several moments and joyous at many scenes. I have been utterly moved by this story
Note: this book deals with elements that are painful to hear, and I wouldn't recommend for young listeners.
I appreciate how the author didn't shy away from pain, nor sugarcoat the experiences of her characters, but neither does she over-narrate any element. She has written an excellent balance of realism into her fantastical world.
I'll definitely be keeping this whole series in my library to listen to again and again! I have been sharing it with my fellow book lovers; I've already got three friends listening to it!
I highly recommend this book, and the other three that follow - the story is well worth the listen.
Your book credits will be well spent!!!!!!

Loved this nerdy, 80's obsessed dystopian fantasy gamers fest.
The movie is totally unlike the original different story, so whether or not you liked it, this book is awesome!

The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

Great Story All The Way to the End
Revisado: 09-22-20
Ever read a book and hope the story carries through to the end and has a good payoff?
Look no further, this book is great! I just downloaded Book 2 because I loved this one (Book 1)
I enjoy how the author blends fantasy and technology, I also highly enjoyed the narrator's skilled storytelling and differentiating between characters. Excellent all the way through!
Now that I've finished it, I can definitely recommend this book. And I don't do that lightly : )

For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure, and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

A tale of adventure & redemption
Revisado: 04-22-20
After listening to Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, I was hoping for another amazing story.
This book does not disappoint. I loved the twists and how all things came together.
It's a beautiful story and I highly recommend it.
I love how the author played with time and tells the whole story in pieces.
It was excellently done :)

This book -IS- good and She's done it again!!!!!
Revisado: 04-08-20
I loved The Night Circus, and this book is amazing too!! Someone wrote a review that this book wasn't that good and it's too much and I say Bah!
This book is wildly intricate but has such a satisfyingly good ending!
Erin Morgenstern plays with time again and really delves into the idea of "story" - which is brilliant.
She weaves such a beautiful web and I can't wait to listen to this book all over again, this time catching all the little clues now that I know the whole story.
I love her use of stories within stories and it's so well done.
She also tells such good love stories!
And her use of the English language blows me away.
Read and enjoy knowing this is a rich and hearty tale.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway - a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors.

One of the Best Stories You Will Ever Read - Truly
Revisado: 03-11-20
I found this book after listening to Harry Potter because Jim Dale reads that series as he narrates this book. His voice is now a familiar friend and he gives life to this story so eloquently.
The author is one of the most brilliant story tellers I have ever encountered. Her world building ability is beyond words. The way she plays with time but how you never feel lost is astounding.
I've just finished my 3rd listening of this book and I love it now even more. Though I don't have children, I can't wait to introduce them to it when they are older. It would be a fantastic read for a family on a road trip, or for a solitary sojourner on a train.
Though there is only one scene that is fully understood by an older audience, and much of the story may go over young listeners' heads, I feel this book can transcend generations for all to enjoy it.
I wish there were more of this story, although the author ties the end up so well there is no need for more.
This is the kind of story that leaves the listener wanting more, and I am of the mind that those are the best of books.
I hope you enjoy this book, as much as I have, and if Ms. Morgenstern ever reads this, thank you so incredibly much for this book.

Wonderful Series Finale
Revisado: 03-02-20
The final book about Sofie and Howl and Calcifer and the Moving Castle is just as wonderful as the rest.
I absolutely adore the world the author created and I've listened to these books over and over again! be sure to listen to them all!
This being book 3, I recommend reading it after Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Air.
Those are equally brilliant and fun!
This series is excellent for car rides or listening to while doing tasks around the house or anything else! My husband and I love listening to it on a long car ride and when we have kids we will definitely listen to it with them! It's a story all ages can enjoy!
Happy listening!!

The best book series of all
Revisado: 02-26-20
I first discovered the story of Howl + Sofie and the moving castle from the anime adaptation by Studio Ghibli.
That movie is beyond good.
Then I found it was based on a book and the books are equally amazing and also rather different, which is fun! You get two different stories!
Castle in the Air is book #2 and it's just as marvelous. Diane, the author, does some beautiful world building and I love her characters and descriptions and incredible use of language. She is a marvel of a storyteller.
I love this series so much that I have listened to all three (the third is House of Many Ways) so often on audible, I can't count it! (At least ten times!) and I bought the books to add to my physical library. I plan to read this books to my children when I have kids.
Truly, this story is worth every penny, and the narration is gold.
