Historia
The peace of the Sect has been broken. Incursions come from the nomadic tribes of the southern mountains and from deep underground. Against these foes of the Empire—both old and new—Ling Qi and her allies will be set to test themselves. It is said that conflict is the great whetstone of talent, but war may devour the genius and the common talent alike without differentiation. What is to be gained and what is to be lost as the fires grow?

I love this series
Revisado: 12-28-23
I’ve never listened to a cultivation story before this series and now I worry about trying others because I love this series so dearly I worry that none others will measure up. If you like a lot of detail in your fantasy, wholesomeness but also challenges in battles and emotions, great character growth and relationships, and a TON of battles, magic, and magical beings and spirits.
This is the type of cozy fantasy I’m into—you get a ton of cozy feels by getting to know the characters so deeply and the depth of magic in the world as well as journeying with the MC throughout her day to day life. But it’s not cozy at all in the sense that there’s still tons of fighting and battles, challenges, quests, etc. Cozy with a ton of adventure and VERY extensive battle scenes.
Finally, Natalie Naudus’s narration of this is excellent. Her narration style is really suited to this story.

Historia
God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

Amazing
Revisado: 11-08-16
This book was amazing to listen to. The narrator was very good and clear. The Parable of the Sower is the most well written sci fi I've ever read. The characters are all very well developed and there are so many deep and thought provoking ideas fit into the story. It's about religion and race and enslavement and rampant capitalism and corrupt government and love and survival. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Esi, imprisoned beneath Effia in the castle's women's dungeon and then shipped off on a boat bound for America, will be sold into slavery.

Homegoing
Revisado: 08-04-16
Historical fictions about generations of a family are my favorite type of novel and Homegoing is added to my list of favorite books. The narration was very good. The stories of each family member are heartbreaking and heartwarming. We travel all the way from Ghana near the beginning of the slave trade there through slavery in America, up to Harlem during the Great Migration, through segregation, wars on the Cape Coast, tragedies, and resilience. The story ends with a young woman born in Ghana and raised in Alabama and a young man born in Harlem with a deep desire to understand the long history of his family. They travel to Ghana together and visit the castle where their great great great great grandmothers, one a wife of a white slaver and the other a captured girl sold into slavery by this same man, both lived and began this saga. Wonderful book.

Americanah was absolutely wonderful to listen to. It's a very engaging story and so real. The narrator, Adjoa Andoh, was PHENOMENAL. This is one of the best books I've ever read or listened to, but Adjoa's narration made the story so much more alive than if I had just read it. Cannot recommend it more highly.
