Historia
When Admiral William Halsey selected Destroyer Squadron 21 to lead his victorious ships into Tokyo Bay to accept the Japanese surrender, it was the most battle-hardened US naval squadron of the war. But it was not the squadron of ships that had accumulated such an inspiring résumé; it was the people serving aboard them. Through diaries, personal interviews with survivors, and letters written to and by the crews during the war, preeminent historian of the Pacific theater John Wukovits brings to life the human story of the squadron and its men.

Really enjoyed learning about the period from this angle. The writing rode the line between accurately stating the very real violence, and overstating gore, well.

Disappointing
Revisado: 12-24-18
This reads like a Cavanaugh family calendar, without the beer and sex. I'm a big Bernie Fan, but I was hoping for a more fleshed out version of these ideals, and what led this man to commit to them. Instead, it was a lot of campaign rhetoric on repeat. This book could have been something so much more personal, but I feel like instead it read like a catchphrase. Informative in some places, and documentary in it's timeline, I was let down.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Revisado: 12-24-18
After being raised with so many versions of this tale, I was surprised to find this coherent and concise story. So many elements I had considered critical, are just not there at all, not replaced but removed to reveal what really made this classic, stick.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Bare bones creepy and no brakes on the pace car. This story just goes from bad to worse and lays everything bare in an assault on the books premise.

Historia
Thoreau's classic account of the solitary life, describing his attempts to simplify his life and sort out his priorities by living alone in a cabin beside Walden Pond for nearly two years, is one of the most influential books ever written. The bible of the environmental movement, Walden vividly portrays Thoreau's reverence for nature, and his understanding of the idea that nature is made up of crucially interrelated parts.

Historia
On an unseasonably warm autumn day, an American teacher enters a public bathroom beneath Sofia's National Palace of Culture. There he meets Mitko, a charismatic young hustler, and pays him for sex. A Curious Door to Open
Revisado: 12-24-18
This was an odd piece that left me feeling apart from the characters. Thier lives and stories don't seem to amount to anything much, and that leaves you feeling unproductive, like you've waisted your time. It's well written, but not exactly entertaining.

Historia
Rasputin separates fact from fiction to reveal the real life of one of history's most alluring figures. Drawing on a wealth of forgotten documents from archives in seven countries, Smith presents Rasputin in all his complexity - man of God, voice of peace, loyal subject, adulterer, drunkard. Rasputin is not just a definitive biography of an extraordinary and legendary man, but a fascinating portrait of the twilight of imperial Russia as it lurched toward catastrophe.

Historia
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

If you're into the classic Maritime novels, this is a great book to add to your library. I don't recall much about the movie.. but I found the book highly entertaining. Narration was great, and the scenes were clear, and sharp.

Rafe is a normal teenager from Colorado. He's been out since 8th grade, accepted by his peers & championed by his progressive parents. And while that's important, all Rafe really wants is to be a regular guy. To have his sexuality be a part of who he is, but not the headline, every single time. So when Rafe transfers to an all-boys' boarding school in New England, he decides to keep his sexuality a secret - not so much going back in the closet as starting over with a clean slate.

I loved this book from start to finish. This fictional teen romance tackled some serious issues that I've personally dealt with, and shed some wisdom along side a sweet, and entertaining story. I even laughed out loud in some sections. Very worth listening to for fans of gay literature.
