Historia
An AI overseer and a human crew arrive on a distant planet to salvage an ancient UN starship. The overseer is unhappy. The crew, well, they're certainly no A-team. Not even a C-team on the best of days. And worse? Urmahon Beta, the planet, is at the ass-end of nowhere. Everybody expects this to be a long, ugly, and thankless job. Then it all goes disastrously wrong. What they thought was an uninhabited backwater turns out to be anything but empty.

Unexpected ending, don't trust the reviews.
Revisado: 09-27-21
going through some of the reviews for this book, I was caught off guard by how wrong they were.
Mr. Fillion does a great job recounting this story, though, it seemed like the higher volume parts were intentionally left faux-yelling (or something) it might've been the recording studio or if that's what the producer wanted it, whatever, I caught the jist. he did not attempt any accents, but the tone during his speech of the main characters made it pretty noticable who was speaking at the time. the lower parts were also a little sketchy, like a whisper or a very low speaking tone was muddled and difficult to understand. Not sure if it was a production gaffe or a narrator issue.
The story reminded me of a game by Tynan Sylvester. RimWorld. instead of crash landing and without and AI, the Salvage crew isn't the best that you can attempt to get, like the game. Because of the mismatch or skills and personalities, issues pop up and tragedy strikes often, like in the game.
The story does alter in direction and tone from after the midway point. it won't be what the reader wants, and that's on purpose. The author is writing this for the sake of AI vs. PreHuman AI vs. Humanity as a whole, not for just the story of the salvage crew, the crew was just a switch flipping the breaker on the rest of the bigger story.
My opinion? 7/10. read it and notice the good parts. don't ignore the bad parts, but just because they exist, doesn't mean they ruin the rest of the story.

Historia
Earth's armed forces have stopped the Lanky advance and chased their ships out of the solar system, but for CDC officer Andrew Grayson, the war feels anything but won. On Mars, the grinding duty of flushing out the twenty-meter-tall alien invaders from their burrows underground is wearing down troops and equipment at an alarming rate. And for the remaining extrasolar colonies, the threat of a Lanky attack is ever present.

Kloos fires with a continuation into our story with a battlefield psychology aspect that brings a understanding tone to those of us who don't know what it feels like.
Daniels nails the audio as usual.

The highly anticipated follow-up to William R. Forstchen's New York Times best-sellers, One Second After and One Year After, The Final Day immerses listeners once more in the story of our nation's struggle to rebuild itself after an electromagnetic pulse wipes out all electricity and plunges the country into darkness, starvation, and terror.

Great ending to one of the most emotional series I've listened to at work. A couple times during the series I found myself tearing up and hoping that events like these never happen. the human condition is well represented and racism, classism, and other forms of discrimination are represented in a fashion that is relatable to many facets of life today.
The ending fell through. I wanted more of a cap on the series. I mean, we got it, but the events leading up made you prepared for more of a climactic ending.
Great series showing a representation of how messed up things can get.
