It’s time for a shift in business towards empathy, heart, and humanity.
Revisado: 05-15-24
This book is one of the first I have read on this topic and I felt it was exactly in alignment with my own thoughts. While pursuing my MBA, the idea of maximizing shareholder profits was considered paramount. The unsustainable effects of that way of doing business are evident across the world today. However, what the author shares here is a way through the cold stiffness of the old business paradigm, towards an embrace of our shared humanity and bringing our full-selves to our businesses. I’d recommend this for all business owners and especially those who care about creating a global business environment filled with more intentionality, warmth, care, and shared benefit. We are all indeed in this together.

Historia
The United States, the richest country on earth, has more poverty than any other advanced democracy. Why? Why does this land of plenty allow one in every eight of its children to go without basic necessities, permit scores of its citizens to live and die on the streets, and authorize its corporations to pay poverty wages?

Simple Book to Understand a complex problem better
Revisado: 12-22-23
I have found it difficult to understand more left leaning reasoning for fighting poverty. This book made great points and helped clarify those positions. For me this isn’t a left or right issue. Poverty affects us all and this book speaks towards the need to transcend polarization and theorizing and get to the work of practical action.

Historia
In 2015, Arlan Hamilton was on food stamps and sleeping on the floor of the San Francisco airport, with nothing but an old laptop and a dream of breaking into the venture capital business. She couldn’t understand why people starting companies all looked the same (white and male), and she wanted the chance to invest in the ideas and people who didn’t conform to this image of how a founder is supposed to look. Hamilton had no contacts or network in Silicon Valley, no background in finance - not even a college degree. What she did have was fierce determination and the will to succeed.

Arlan Hamilton’s book is rare and good. She gives hope and encourage Mrs to a completely overlooked generation of BIPOC and queer dreams and makers.
I found this book really helpful for my own business and challenging.

Historia
Can you succeed in business when your strength is more about sensitivity than swagger? If you’re moved by meaning, more than manipulation? In other words: Can you succeed while still being you? Christine Kane is living proof that the answer is yes. Far too many of us have swallowed the notion that business owners have to be a certain way to be successful - strategy-obsessed, data-driven, and relentlessly aggressive.

If you’re an HSP + Business Owner This is for You!
Revisado: 01-26-23
One theme that flows through this book is practicality.
Christine dives head first into the inner life and outer workings of empaths and HSPs who want to or are already creating through business.
However, as she unpacks challenges she also provides a lot of practical online tools and practices which help to provide some foundational systems for day to day operations.
Many (not all) business books I’ve come across in past aren’t specifically written for high sensory folks like myself. Where some have emphasized hustling harder and ever increasing levels of grinding….this book offers intuition, healthy boundaries, self-awareness/acceptance, and embodied action as a path towards business and life growth.
As a a person who is a business owner and HSP this is this book I needed in 2023.

With Quiet, Susan Cain urged our society to cultivate space for the undervalued, indispensable introverts among us, thereby revealing an untapped power hidden in plain sight. Now she employs the same mix of research, storytelling, and memoir to explore why we experience sorrow and longing, and how embracing the bittersweetness at the heart of life is the true path to creativity, connection, and transcendence.

This is a dose of what the West especially needs
Revisado: 12-26-22
Susan Cain’s words here melt the heart and are a signpost pointing towards the ways in which we need to change our orientation to life, ourselves, and others in the west.
It was also really validating as a reader who is black and an HSP to learn about the scientific realities of generational trauma passed down and perhaps what we can do about it.
I thoroughly recommend it.

Revisado: 12-20-22
This is a great primer for any men out there (myself included) who are waking up to the reality, goodness, and value of their sensitivity. The book does read a little like a presentation and was challenging to follow at times. However, the information is invaluable.
I really recommend the content of this book and I'm grateful to the author for making this available.

So writes Cole Arthur Riley in her unforgettable book of stories and reflections on discovering the sacred in her skin. In these deeply transporting pages, Arthur Riley reflects on the stories of her grandmother and father, and how they revealed to her an embodied, dignity-affirming spirituality, not only in what they believed but in the act of living itself.

Cole speaks in a way that made me not only think but also feel deeply. She validates the body and specifically the dreams, aches, lament, joy, and liberation of black bodies. It’s refreshing to stumble across black contemplatives sucubas herself. I highly recommend this book!

Kafka is one of 161 inspired-and inspiring-minds, among them, novelists, poets, playwrights, painters, philosophers, scientists, and mathematicians, who describe how they subtly maneuver the many (self-inflicted) obstacles and (self-imposed) daily rituals to get done the work they love to do, whether by waking early or staying up late; whether by self-medicating with doughnuts or bathing, drinking vast quantities of coffee, or taking long daily walks.

Haven’t seen many books like this
Revisado: 02-15-22
The author does a great job in introducing listeners to the worlds of so many of e greatest artists that the world has known. It must have been painstaking to do this and I really respect his labor of love. I think the book was mostly biased towards European and white male American artists. I would have liked to have heard more of a mix of other non-white artists from varying genders. I also would’ve liked to hear of more queer artists. I think this work is brilliant in its inception and should be built on and updated for 2021.
