Best if you have an accent

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 03-21-04

The exercises are good, if slightly over-repeated, and the advice is sound. However, over half of the book is dedicated to overcoming regional accents. If you already have a "midwest" accent, as I do, then you'll be bored (and perhaps annoyed) during lengthy sessions on how not to drop R's, correct slow Southern-based speech patterns, and not say "axe" for "ask".

The Art and Skill of Conversation Audiolibro Por Edward L. Fritsch, Nathan P. Rosenblatt arte de portada

Misleading title and description

Revisado: 03-05-04

I feel that the descriptiion is quite inaccurate, this is more of a "self-help" book than it is about conversation. The narration is poor, the advice is not insightful, and a lot of time is devoted to topics that really don't relate to conversational tactics and abilities.

The other reviews are right, don't waste your time/money. I wish I would have taken their advice, learn from my mistake.

7 Ways To Stretch Out A Book

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 03-05-04

If you're completely new to money management, and have never read a Time magazine or USA Today article on the subject, you'll learn something. Otherwise, only buy this audiobook if you want a light-hearted surface-level review of common-sense practices. For example, don't lease cars. Pay off high-interest credit card bills first. Don't be ashamed of clipping coupons. Don't lend money to people who won't pay it back.

It's rather impressive how the author milks nearly 5 hours out of repeating the same things over and over.

Woo Woo Kitchen

The best part about this book is its short length. Rather than being pratical, its a romp thru the land of buzz words, chemical compositions, and Luddite theory regarding the danger of microwaves and processed foods.

If you've already bought into this perspective, then you'll probably dig this book. If you're looking for useful everday advice, or skeptical about the whole organic/whole earth food approach, dont' bother.

History made entertaining

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-13-03

While it is somewhat disappointing that this is an abridged version, it actually works out pretty well. Hard core history or civil war listeners will want to wait for the complete work. But for the rest of us, this gives a not-too-long chunk of good story, interesting narrative, and colorful language.

Stick with it

The story gets better as it goes on, so don't give up when you first start this book. The narrator is the biggest problem at first, he sounds like someone doing a poor Phil Hartman imitation, but by the end you realize he was perfect casting. Enjoyable and entertaining.
