Historia
Lee Gulliver never thought she’d find herself living on the streets—no one ever does—but when her restaurant fails, and she falls deeper into debt, she leaves her old life behind with nothing but her clothes and her Toyota Corolla. In Seattle, she parks in a secluded spot by the beach to lay low and plan her next move—until early one morning, she sees a sobbing woman throw herself into the ocean. Lee hauls the woman back to the surface, but instead of appreciation, she is met with fury.

Exciting beginning, but the story falls flat.
Revisado: 01-11-24
This review is not about the performance - the voice actors did a great job and there was a clear distinction between the two women who narrate this story. The story itself starts out intriguing and grips the reader with the premise, but the ending is easy to say the least - as if the narrator couldn't find a way out and took the easy way out. The two women narrator in the story - if it weren't for the different voice actors - blend together. Their personalities, their wordings, their interpretation of events and their overstatement of the obvious were all very similar and seemed like the same exact person. Even the fact they called their bf - their "lover" - both use the same terminology and had similar habits. Overall the story is one-dimensional and hastily ended.

Historia
Clara Lawson is torn from her life in an instant. Without warning, her home is invaded by armed men, and she finds herself separated from her beloved husband and daughters. The last thing her husband yells to her is to say nothing. In chapters that alternate between past and present, the novel slowly unpeels the layers of Clara's fractured life. We see her growing up, raised with her sisters by the stern Mama and Papa G, becoming a poised and educated young woman, falling desperately in love with the forbidden son of her adoptive parents.

Well Done
Revisado: 08-23-17
Would you consider the audio edition of The Girl Before to be better than the print version?
Let me tell you this. If I heard this woman's (the main character's) story on the media, I would've never sympathized with her. Rena Olsen doesn't just have you sympathize with her -- she makes you love her, root for her, and live in her footsteps.
Amazing story. Outstanding character development. 5 stars from me!

Would you listen to Pretty Girls again? Why?
Wow - would probably definitely listen to pretty girls again. The character development was fantastic and the connections the characters had to one another, I did not see coming. Really enjoyed this book and the ending was -- gratifying to say the least. The reader gives a strong performance.

The last to the triology - Interesting Read
Revisado: 08-23-17
What did you love best about End of Watch?
I'm a fan of Stephen King so perhaps this review may be a bit biased. However, one of Mr. King's quirks is usually writing a sudden ending that seems obscure and unexpected not in a particularly gratifying way. This series, not so much, I enjoyed the endings of these series and didn't find them as unexpected or rushed as I usually feel with Stephen King's books. This last book was not my favorite in the series -- I'm not a huge fan of the er "supernatural" I'll call it since I don't want to give anything way, but it was well written and the characters, as per Stephen King's specialty, well developed and well rounded. With this series I especially enjoy the main characters - how extremely different they each are and yet come together as a family.

Historia
Thomas Fool is an Information Man, an investigator tasked with cataloging and filing reports on the endless stream of violence and brutality that flows through Hell. His job holds no reward or satisfaction, because Hell has rules but no justice. Each new crime is stamped "Do Not Investigate" and dutifully filed away in the depths of the Bureaucracy. But when an important political delegation arrives and a human is found murdered in a horrific manner - extravagant even by Hell's standards - everything changes.

Favorite Dark Fiction
Revisado: 04-01-16
If you could sum up The Devil's Detective in three words, what would they be?
My best friend called me and suggested this book to me - "it's dark and deep," she said, "you'll love it." And that it is. It's poetic and riveting. I could not stop reading this book. I actually bought it in person. Definitely not a book to recommend to say -- er--- your mother-in-law. But a book that makes you question what hell and heaven really is... one of the most striking comments in the book was (and I'm paraphrasing) -- that in hell, you live in a world of constant torture, rape, murder, and destruction but the worst part of it isn't all that, the worst part of hell is not knowing why you're there. You know you deserve this - but what did you do that made this so? (The characters in hell have no memories of their lives in Earth and that's what makes hell truly hell).
The character development and the ending are absolutely phenomenal. If you're into dark fiction, please give this a read. You will not regret it.

Historia
You've probably heard clips from Senator Clinton's interview with Barbara Walters. But now you can listen to her full account of her years in the White House. Hillary Clinton vividly describes her pain over her husband's betrayal with Monica Lewinky saying that former President Bill Clinton lied to her about the relationship until the weekend before he admitted the nature of it to a grand jury.

Too Distant
Revisado: 10-27-15
What disappointed you about Living History?
Honestly, the book didn't seem that genuine. Even the moments which supposedly had the intention of seeming open and revealing, weren't. She writes about her struggles like facts -- without feeling and consequence. To me, this made the reading seem dull and made the writer herself seem distant. When I chose this book, I hoped to get to know Hilary Clinton more as a person and her own individual, but I closed it thinking that's just another politically-motivated essay on her life. But it was my fault for being too naive to think she would give us a genuine look at her life and the struggles that drove her passions.

Would you consider the audio edition of Big Little Lies to be better than the print version?
I'm a big fan of both Liane Moriarty and Caroline Lee together. Caroline Lee gives a great performance - one that forbade me from pausing the audiobook. Got through this book in record time and don't think I ever pressed the pause button. I highly recommend Liane Moriarty, especially this book. Please read before you watch the show. The show is great, I've seen it - but Liane has a fantastic talent of character development especially in mothers.
