Nail-biting and well-narrated series
Revisado: 04-09-25
This series is absolutely worth it! Normally it's difficult to maintain the pace and excitement in a six-part series, but Craig DiLouie does a great job, showcasing the protagonist's growth. The series starts off with a young officer wanting to be part of the Silent Service and eager to test himself in combat and seeing what he's made of.
It's a very engaging story as you join this officer through various trials and adversities. The narration makes it top notch and you feel transported in that environment and the tension as the submarine takes on destroyers and other challenges. The technical detail seems well-researched and is sure to keep anyone interested in military fiction deeply interested as well.
There are multiple times where you think the protagonist is done for, and you start wondering if Craig creates a new character for the remaining books, as there is no kid-gloves treatment for the main character who has his highs and lows. I found myself listening to this and quickly covering each book as I was doing various chores.
Highly recommended!

There have been many Marines. There have been many marksmen. But there has been only one Sergeant Carlos Hathcock, a legend of Marine lore. He stalked the Viet Cong behind enemy lines. His record has never been matched: 93 confirmed kills. This is his story. Powerful, chilling, and all true.

Engaging story of a legend
Revisado: 08-14-24
Audiobook was an enjoyable listen, especially regarding the escapades of Carlos Hathcock and his individual battles. The engagements were very well described and felt like you were transported to the jungle numerous times, feeling the tension in the air as he went about hunting another foe or cutting down a group of enemies.
Highly recommend.

Eye opening account of a difficult and harsh childhood and its aftereffects
Revisado: 07-08-24
Great book and narration by Rob Henderson. It was difficult and saddening to hear of his early childhood experiences and the listener gets an idea of the immense distress that a young child's mind had to grapple with.
It made me more grateful for the environment that I grew up in and was able to work very hard and get into good colleges.
I had always thought that people who had hard childhoods or experienced poverty eventually make it out alright and life "compensates" them. But I was increasingly skeptical of this view and this book further confirmed how difficult it can be for someone to leave that baggage behind and how hard someone needs to work to overcome it. Full credit and props to Rob for making the effort to confront his past and achieving what he has.
Rob's chapter on luxury beliefs is eye-opening and reveals the machinations by which upper class people propagate a belief that has almost no cost to them but imposes large costs on the lower classes.
Highly recommend this audiobook.

Historia
William Bernstein's commonsense approach to portfolio construction has served investors well during the past turbulent decade - and it's what made The Four Pillars of Investing an instant classic when it was first published nearly a decade ago. This down-to-earth book lays out in easy-to-understand prose the four essential topics that every investor must master: the relationship of risk and reward, the history of the market, the psychology of the investor and the market, and the folly of taking financial advice from investment salespeople.

Interesting and thought provoking fundamentals in investing
Revisado: 05-06-24
A bit heavy on numbers, probably more useful to be read as a book rather than an audiobook. However, this audiobook outlines nany sobering lessons and principles in investing.
Must listen for any investor and many lessons in portfolio management and planning.

Historia
For a moment Wilson froze and looked at the white-helmeted pilot who sat high on the nose of the colossal fighter. Across the small void, he saw the pilot's eyes peer over his mask. Dark, chilling eyes. Wilson kicked right rudder to slide closer and jam any chance for a bandit gunshot. When the bandit pulled all the way over, almost on its back but in control, he cursed in frustration at what he knew was coming next.

Fast-paced and excellent narration of engagements
Revisado: 05-30-23
Riveting narration of a wartime Naval aviator's experiences, ranging from inspirational and frustrating senior officers to showing pure determination and courage in the face of extreme odds. The story was very well-balanced and the narrator's performance was excellent, adding to the immersion. Fans of military aviation will enjoy this and I'm hoping to check out the rest of the trilogy.

Highly recommend everyone listen to this audiobook. Excellent narration of the stories makes you feel like you're listening to the wisdom of the ancients.
The first chapter is a bit of a drawl, but after that it really picks up. The principles of saving and investing do get a bit repetitive but the stories that are used to describe them makes it worth listening.
