Historia
When Germanic troops in the service of the empire begin to rebel and a Roman general disappears, Emperor Vespasian turns to the one man he can trust: Marcus Didius Falco, a private informer whose rates are low enough that even the stingy Vespasian is willing to pay them. To Falco, an undercover tour of Germany is an assignment from Hades. On a journey that only a stoic could survive, Falco meets with disarray, torture, and murder. His one hope: In the northern forest lives a powerful Druid priestess who perhaps can be persuaded to cease her anti-Rome activities and work for peace.

I love these novels - they really bring Ancient Rome to life.
Revisado: 04-17-24
I have read every one of the series. They are great mysteries, presented in an interesting and engaging way with the setting in Ancient Rome. I highly recommend the whole series.

Historia
This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love. Through Jean M. Auel’s magnificent storytelling we are taken back to the dawn of modern humans, and with a girl named Ayla we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world they shared with the ones who called themselves the Clan of the Cave Bear.

Fascinating ancient drama
Revisado: 04-05-24
This book takes place tens of thousands of years ago, but the story is as compelling and relatable as if it were about modern people. We can only imagine, for the most part, the lives of these ancient people. Clan of the Cave Bear and the rest of the series brings these ancient people to life with so much detail and depth. I’ve read every book in the series many times. They are wonderful characters living in a fascinating, ancient time.

Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Delightful
Revisado: 04-04-24
One of the most enjoyable works of historical fiction I’ve ever read. It’s a rare look into a period of history that is usually depicted with such bleakness, however, here it is shown in such tender humanity and decency. Entertaining and compelling, the characters are lovable and the story is uplifting.

Very enjoyable! Fans of the original Star trek series will especially like this story. The narrator does a wonderful job with the voices for each character. Highly recommended!
