The intertwining of the characters
Revisado: 09-21-24
I’ll make this quick and simple. If you have not yet had the pleasure of listening to this trilogy, you can rest assured that it is worth the credit and your time. It has everything that makes a series great. It has moments where the characters are introspective and others where they are fighting for their lives. The plot is just complicated enough to keep you on your toes while, at the same time, everything is brought together and made clear. This truly is a rare jewel, like finding a real ruby or diamond in your Momma’s old jewelry box, hidden amongst the sparkly and gaudy glass earrings and necklaces.

The unnecessary social/cancel culture nonsense
Revisado: 06-24-24
I really enjoy the storyline and the characters. It’s engaging and, when on track, is a fun ride. The thing is, people who enjoy fictional books by reading or listening to them, do so in order to escape the everyday mundane or downright political, social and violent horrors of the world. All of the social nonsense, the gender nonsense and sexual affinity nonsense is simply not necessary and is not germane to the story at all. I can see some light swipes from the main character about his home world being a necessity element for story building and to shore up his foundation but it became too much. I want to escape from all of the craziness, not engulf myself in it when I’m simply trying to relax. I can bury myself in all of the world’s drama by turning on any news or social media outlet. Nuff said. The second point is that especially in this third book, there was way too much technical stuff. It was sometimes hard to enjoy the battle scenes because of the long explanations about the different essences and skills. How about explaining those things when a character powers up and then just give a very, very brief overview when the characters are engaged in a battle. It’s almost as if those long explanations were included just to add more length to the book by adding in a bunch of technical fluff. I am going to continue on with the next book in the series because, as I mentioned, I truly like the storyline and characters. If the unnecessary nonsense continues though, I’ll sadly move on to another series because as I also mentioned, I use and enjoy fiction as a relief from the world. I don’t use it as pool of worldly depression to swim in all of Earth’s dramas to achieve total saturation during my waking hours.

Another great story by this author
Revisado: 11-07-23
The author’s approach to his story’s is a pleasant difference from many of this genre. He does give his main characters gifts and powers but he constrains them within the frailty of humanity. He also makes them work out for themselves just what their capabilities are and the limits of those capabilities. The emotional ups and downs of love, loss, achievements and failures also blend together in making a more believable character. I highly recommend all of Duncan M. Hamilton’s books.

Ahren and his companions journey on to Evergreen, finding new courage after the traumas of the Green Sea. Setting off, then, to traverse the continent in search of the missing Paladin Yollock, it isn't long before they find themselves sucked into a maelstrom of adventures involving a woman who has been robbed, a desperate Cape Verstaad grandee, not to mention a cutthroat city which proves itself a veritable nest of ne'er-do-wells. Controlled by the brilliant assassin Reik Silvermantle, this hub of lawlessness and immorality presents Ahren and his friends with one of their greatest challenges.

Not a fan of the switch
Revisado: 11-01-23
I’ve really enjoyed this series and look forward to the next installment. I do hope that the original narrator will be used when it is released. Switching the narrator this deep into a series, no matter how good or bad they are, changes the entire experience and not in a good way. I also think it would be wise to inform your faithful listeners when the next installment will be available. By not doing so, many followers of the tale could very well be lost. Three stars is the best I could bring myself to give this installment.

Wolf of the North: It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be. Jorundyr's Path: Jorundyr's Path is walked only by the brave. As Wulfric pursues Adalhaid's Blood Debt, he soon learns that the path to revenge is never easy. The Blood Debt: A blade fit for a hero. An army for a tyrant. A reckoning long awaited, and a tale reaching its end.

Epic Warrior’s Tale
Revisado: 11-01-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy. It was an epic tale of the honorable warriors of olden times. Friendships forged, a tragic love story, the conniving of evil, pompous men and those who could be bought with coin, having no honor, decency or scruples. Best of all, the frailties of men, even those who were true warriors, were shown, making the story believable. The ending was nigh perfect. The main hero of the tale, having survived so many battles against men and the elements, was killed by snake of a man who did so with a desperate strike with a simple carving knife. It was both irony and a mercy. An irony that such a pathetic excuse of a man could strike down a true warrior but a mercy, ending the warriors internal suffering and reuniting him with the one love of his life. I would recommend this story to all who enjoy the world of well written books.

An ‘in between’
Revisado: 06-12-23
I enjoyed the book and the narration. I saw this as a juncture or intersecting point in ‘The Path of the Ranger’ story. The characters are maturing in age, talent and wisdom. At this point, they are no longer children in a war torn world but are developing into adulthood. Their personalities are also evolving, having retained their honorable traits but, at times, showing a bit of the darkness of spirit we all have had to contend with as young adults. Will they all be able to maintain their moral compass in good form? I am hoping this segment of the journey is the set up for the final books in this absolutely ‘fantastic’ series.

This was different
Revisado: 05-14-23
I enjoyed the book but not nearly as much as the previous ones. The constant search for his little companion, leaving him tired and unable to perform at his best was not captivating but rather irritating. Although he performed below every other candidate, he became the star of the school in the end. That made no sense. There was not enough content about the actual training either but was instead focused on the teachers showing off. I thought that in such a wondrous and strange place, the students would have quite a few amazing and, often, terrifying experiences but that did not materialize. I still want to finish the series but I am hoping that the next books will be more up to par then this one was.
