The most thorough making-of-Star-Trek book I’ve had the pleasure to read!

This is quite possibly the best book on the making of Star Trek TOS I've read. Despite some overdone caricatures in the narration (I'm looking at you, whoever are responsible for reading Shatner and Takei), I'm thoroughly enjoying this book. If you have a credit to spare, or even if you don’t, I highly recommend it. I don't know if there are any others in this series thus far, but I'm going to be on the look-out!

This book delivers on all of its promises—a heroine who is likable and whose wisecrackery is _so right up my alley, supporting characters who are likewise fun to get to know, and a world I can't wait to revisit! I normally like to take a break between books in a series, to let the events of the book I just finished sink in before starting the next one. Not since The Dresden Files have I been so excited about diving into the next installment. Were it for the fact that I have another series that needs finishing, I'd immediately begin the second book. This one is _that much fun! You like action? It's here. Humor? It's here aplenty. Intriguing magic mingled with our own world? It's here too. It's all here! Pull up a barstool and dig in!

This was a short, quick listen. Andrews manages to build a world and spin a fun, romantic yarn in just over four hours. While some of the politics allowed my mind to wander, the banter and action flew fast and furious enough to keep it from wandering for very long.

Even more than while reading the first two books in this series, I found myself sleep-deprived for several nights, as I couldn’t put the book aside long enough to go to bed! And it’s not just because this book is longer. It's because the short chapters flow into each other so urgently that before I realized what was happening, I'd read 10 to 15 chapters before coming up for air! In short, if you're a fan of this series, make sure you set aside a good chunk of time to read. Everything that worked so well in the other books works here too, and stakes get ratcheted up to huge heights! The bar has been set incredibly high for Year Four, to the point where only a super powered leap has any chance of clearing it. I can't _wait to see the action!

This was a quick, enjoyable read. An apetizer to tide us fans over for a while. HERE's hoping the next installment is close on its heels.

Had it not been for a medication-induced slumber a few chapters in, I would have finished this book in one sitting. Its pace is wonderfully relentless! I haven't been catapulted through a book like this in quite some time—and it felt great! It lost a star because there were a couple times where a lot of agents and agencies were being thrown around, and I had some trouble following exactly how things logically fit together, but that's a minor quibble. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves action and suspense. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Having read the first two Super Powereds books, it was nice to see heroes being heroic, rather than just getting the perspective of people training to be heroes. With that in mind, I do think this novel does stand well enough on its own, which is probably why it's titled as such. There are characters here who I'll miss very much, and I'm hoping they might show up in future Superpowereds installments. Aif you love supers, particularly the MCU, I have no doubt you will love this book!

I'm still trying to figure out what I thought of Dune. I love the setting. That being said, some of the Byzantine intrigue was hard for me to keep straight. Also, characters didn't seem to grow and develop naturally, as much as they were just whisked along to the next stage the author needed them to inhabit so he could tell the story he wanted. It's a subtle distinction, but that made it no less palpable, and distracting, for me.

I'm glad I read the book, and I might even read more in the series. Heck, it might even be worth a re-reading at some point. Given how it's a science-fiction classic, I'd hoped to give it a higher rating. There is much to like, but there’s also a fair amount I found lacking. So here we are.

When it comes to the audiobook presentation, this was one of the most distracting messes I've ever heard. It switches between a single narrator and a cast of actors with no obvious reason. At one point, a scene begins with the single narrator voicing everybody, then they walk into a room and suddenly it's full-cast. Nothing special about the scene to explain this. It felt like they only had the actrrs for a short time, so they recorded what they could, and then had the main narrator read the rest of the book. It would have been better to pick one or the other and embrace that choice fully. Give me a good full-cast dramatization, or a good single narrator. Just please, for the love of all that's holy, make up your mind!

It's hard for me to review a book like this, because it's just not a stand-alone at all. If you enjoyed the first book, this gives you more of what you loved, and escalates things to a new level. If you didn't enjoy, or haven't yet read, the first book in the series, then there's no reason to start with this one. Not much of a review, I grant you, but there it is. I will say this: Whenever you do get to read this book, after you've read and enjoyed the first book, you're in for one amazing ride! And I've been told the remaining two books in the series continue to get better. I can't wait to find out!

As a totally blind person who no longer has a way to enjoy comic books without inconveniencing others, the idea of these stories being "prose comic books" was quite appealing to me. I also enjoyed the enhancement with sound effects. What did strike me as odd was the way narration shifted with certain, but not all, shifts in point of view. Personally, I'd have preferred this not be done; I love audiodrama, but if you're going to make an audiodrama, then make an audiodrama. As good as all the narrators are, I found the abrupt narration changes distracting.

Despite that minor quibble, I got hooked on these characters and their superheroics straight-away, and hope we get more Goon Squad audio-adventures very soon ... because leaving us dangling from the edge of this cliff for so long is just ... just ... not right!!!
