Historia
The islands of Britain and Ireland hold a rich heritage of plant folklore and wisdom, from the magical yew tree to the bad-tempered dandelion. Here are traditional tales about the trees and plants that shape our landscapes and our lives through the seasons. They explore the complex relationship between people and plants, in lowlands and uplands, fields, bogs, moors, woodlands and towns.

Historia
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Not the 1818 original

Dan Steven’s performance is perfect. Although this is not Shelley’s original version (this one is the later 1830s edition) it is still a classic gothic novel.

Historia
You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages, and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. Among them is Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), the unlikely hero of Helen Simonson's wondrous debut. Wry, courtly, opinionated, and completely endearing, Major Pettigrew is one of the most indelible characters in contemporary fiction, and from the very first page of this remarkable novel he will steal your heart.

An old fashioned love story with a twist. The performance was enjoyable. As I got to know the characters, they started feeling like old friends

Historia
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

Beautiful story beautifully performed.
Revisado: 03-13-24
I love the warmth of Juliet Stevenson’s voice against the Thames. The melange of stories and how they intersected each other was truly a web of magic. I felt so sad for Robin. Conceived by rape, but living so many years believing a lie, which caused him so much inner bitterness and anger. Out of all the characters, a whole other novel could be spun from Robin.

A page turner
Revisado: 02-24-24
I listened to this whilst commuting, and read the print while at home. Tartt has a gift for making the words appear as sculpture; there is a rhythm to this story that nudges the reader along. I felt as though I was part of Julian’s class, but more of a quiet voyeur. Excellent story.

I wanted to listen to the book before seeing the movie. I hope the movie does the book justice. This is an incredibly sad part of our history that is so shameful and sinful. I'm thankful to the author for bringing this story to light.

I was looking forward to Grant’s performance, and for the most part it was quite good; however, there were some inconsistencies with the characters’ voices. Nevertheless, it was all wonderful. I read the story every year, but decided to listen this time.

I think something was lost when the story was translated. Elements of the story seemed more like fillers, or maybe just poorly translated. I wasn’t too happy with the performance. Why get an American male for an international character? Even a British accent would have been better. I still gave it 3 stars for a good plot.

Historia
Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army. And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.
