1975 is a time of change in America. The Vietnam War is ending. Muhammad Ali is fighting Joe Frazier. And in the smalltown of Monta Clare, Missouri, girls are disappearing. When the daughter of a wealthy family is targeted, the most unlikely hero emerges—Patch, a local boy, who saves the girl, and, in doing so, leaves heartache in his wake. Patch and those who love him soon discover that the line between triumph and tragedy has never been finer. And that their search for answers will lead them to truths that could mean losing one another.

Such a multicolored multifaceted darkness!
Revisado: 04-10-25
An incredible novel! I could not put it down. The depth and breath of the story/stories was incredible.
A harrowing tail with so much sadness and yet Hope and heroism were companions to The dark and malevolence of evil Eli. I particularly liked the way each chapter was such a bite sized chunk, which left me for one desperate for the next nibble.

Historia
Austen’s classic tale of love and values in the class-conscious England of the late 18th century is her most beloved. The story follows Elizabeth Bennet, one of five sisters, as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in landed-gentry society. One of the most popular novels of all time. Has been adapted to countless variations for the screen.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 02-04-25
A wonderfully written tale. Funnier that I had imagined, this is a wonderful story full of irony and insight into the best and worst of personalities. I am from the UK. I’m afraid that I struggle with the narrator. She did a very good job of narrating conversations and letters, but I struggled with her incorrect pronunciation of many English words. In particular the pronunciation of the locations, Derbyshire and Hertfordshire. I know that may make me sound a little bit like Mr. Darcy, but it was a struggle for me and a problem that should not really be encountered with an audible production.

Extraordinary on Every Level
Revisado: 08-06-22
This is my second time listening to this amazing story. Pat Conroy’s opening explanation of the origins of this epic narrative and his praise for the narrator set the scene beautifully. This story is multi layered and bathed in passion for the Carolina lowlands. This tortured family tale is told with extraordinary prose. The horrors revealed are peppered with humor and poignancy. It is quite simply a gem which should not be missed.
