Revisado: 08-04-22
This has everything we fell in love with in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It’s the beginning and the end. It really is one of the best. Thank you for this book, it makes all the others in the series more colorful, emotional and enjoyable.

Storytelling like some sort of unorthodox poetry
Revisado: 01-18-22
You know how when you watch a great movie and you describe it as “very un-Hollywood”? This book is like that to me. I really enjoyed the story, the way it unfolds and the unique details. The way he “leaves out” some of the descriptive sentences that would regularly be included is almost like missing lines of text. But those descriptions are not necessary, the picture is still vivid in your mind because it is what you already know. You know characters like this in your own life. There is an economy of words. It’s kind of like poetry, and I do not appreciate poetry. I don’t get poetry. I get this book and I get this story. It doesn’t use shocking language, it is just human and gritty and real. It’s a story, it’s different and I found I really liked it.

Historia
From the first moment I see Mason Boone, I can't take my eyes off him. Everyone's got a different story about the gorgeous, silent man in chains. He's a hero, a former Navy SEAL. He's a fugitive, on his way to a court martial. He's a loner, a mountain man who hasn't spoken to another soul in years. But when our plane crashes deep in the Alaskan wilderness, he becomes my only hope. I'm an FBI agent and he's a prisoner, but to survive the wild animals, fierce weather, and unforgiving terrain, I must put my faith in him.

Missing the magic
Revisado: 04-28-20
I almost gave up on it many times but I needed to know how it ended. So I played it a fast speed just to get through it. Many reviews were pretty negative and I guess mine will be too. The story was good but it just drug on wayyy too much. Too much internal dialogue and second guessing emotions. As an FBI agent her internal dialogue was much to weak to make her believable. The characters were just not painted real enough in your mind to care about. Blah.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Surprising really, really good!
Revisado: 08-30-19
I’m not exactly sure why it took me a few chapters to become hooked, but suddenly I couldn’t stop listening. Often I get lost trying to follow the different cast of characters but this story had just enough to create real tension and suspense without giving me a headache. The story felt meaty and full and a bit fresh. I throughly enjoyed it and had the next book purchased before I even finished this one. I am relieved there will be more books in the series.

Another great group of characters to get to know
Revisado: 08-20-19
J.R. Ward really is a great writer of characters and engaging dialog. I enjoyed the mystery behind the story and having Butch revisit his human past was a fresh angle to the series. We love all the original characters so to bringing a few of them back into the story line while heading off on the Legacy Series and introducing the new characters is smart, and it works. It can't be easy for any author to write book after book after book about the same story line and cast of characters but J.R. Ward nails it! Everything about this book feels fresh and familiar at the same time. If you love the series, you will love this book. Winner.

This book wedged it’s way into my bones. Blindsided me because I’m not as clever as I thought.
Revisado: 07-15-18
Lately I have listened to more BDSM through the romance package since I don’t have to risk a credit on a book I might not like.
CD Riss hit the sweet spot focusing on the mental and emotional fulfillment of BDSM. This is backed up by the physical and sexual part but instead of just being shocking, they are skillfully intertwined. This is not a fetish book.
For the first time I could make the mental leap and believed what seems from the outside to be only twisted, sick abuse and power over someone could possibly be a deeper awakening of the complex human mind. A mouthful of words to try to explain why I can defend what we have been taught to scorn, judge, and criticize as just wrong.
Many books were twisted and sick and left me feeling sad and depleted. This did not. Adams single minded discipline when behaving as a Dom is why this BDSM works.
Dianna questions all the right things like feminism, abuse, female empowerment, sense of self worth and sexism. If a woman awakening or exploring the role of a submissive doesn’t process those questions, then the story and process isn’t believable. I think this is why the book was able to drive deeper into me. I didn’t have to just choke down that a smart powerful successful businesswoman could actually become submissive. CD Riss took the time to make the process believable.
I didn’t want the story to have an open ending. I guess that takes away my control as the reader. But as I think about it, a different ending would negate the reasons why all the realisms worked in the book and what made it so special and different from all the others.
I know I will have to download the next book and I would have even spent a credit to get it.
This book is special and I may just buy it so I can have it forever to remember how a very good book on BDSM is done.

He taught me to kill. Murder is in my blood now. It runs through my veins and though I hide the monster I see in the mirror with ink, it doesn't keep him from coming out. My street name is Mercy, but I never show any. Except for her. I watch Becca, though she doesn't know. She saved me a long time ago; the day my father killed my mother. Her bravery turned her into a target. My father holds a grudge and knife with the same proficiency, and Becca is the focus of his hatred. And I'm the only monster who can save her.

Loved the dialogue and characters
Revisado: 07-09-18
Good story a little outside the well worn themes. I enjoy good character development, a sense of getting to know them a little. Great dialogue and witty banter. Sex was raw, real and gritty the way I want it. Muffy’s voice got a little annoying the way each sentence ended a bit breathy but she still added good energy end emotion. Zac’s voice is pure tortured masculinity. I could listen to him all day and night!! A voice made for sex!!

Once upon a time, I believed in fairytales. But then he took me. And he taught me that life isn't a fairytale. He is scarred. Broken. A dark and wild thing. His beauty is violent and his words are cruel. His heart is a shadowed landscape where nothing can grow. He tells me he could never care for me, and he proves it every day.

Well written and thought out.
Revisado: 05-29-18
While very disturbing, I cannot ignore that it was well written. Much relied on dialog and creating a picture and emotion in your mind. Most often books skirt the details and simply refer to "horrors, abuse, and humiliation" and we let our minds fill in the blanks as we continue on with the writers story. Zavarelli spells out exactly what that can entail. Graphic but not just for the sake of being graphic or just shocking. If you have a curiosity for such things, this is the book to experience it. I can appreciate the morbid fascination of such things and acknowledge some find it a type of healthy sexuality. I would like to believe that is possible with healthy adults. However, it emotionally drained me as I started to think these are just broken humans trying to grasp some type of humanity within themselves. I had to just accept the story as it was, and remember Bella was broken or open to it, (by the details from her journal), to fully appreciate the story. It took the very ending of the book to come to some kind of closure that these people could eventually become...people. Very glad I experienced the book. I found some parts hot like no other story in the past. Worth the credit!

My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether. I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows. But he sees me. Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it.

To me, not one of her best but definitely worth the credit. Her writing makes the characters become real. The story was drawn out a little. Carson Beck's voice is intoxicating. I could listen to it every day. I look forward to the next book.
