But the training has barely begun when a woman’s corpse washes up on the sand. Slow to Develop the Story
Revisado: 05-03-22
This story gets off to a very slow start. The main characters spend most of their time alternately criticizing and building one another up. The mystery is secondary to establishing who’s in charge and who needs to learn what. Perhaps once all this is worked out future books will be able to focus on the mystery.

Historia
On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.

Good story but way too long
Revisado: 11-02-21
The premise of this story was interesting although I was able to foresee most of the twists. It went on far too long and too much of the plot development was repeated.

Very formulaic
Revisado: 10-28-21
I listened to this because of David Colacci’s narration which was excellent as always. However, I found the story to be very predictable and formulaic. I am sure there are many readers who enjoy this type of crime fiction but it is not my cup of tea.

Not really a mystery
Revisado: 07-30-21
This is a series of the adventures of a constable. There is no actual mystery. It’s cute but if you are looking for a traditional mystery this isn’t it.

Too violent
Revisado: 07-08-21
I could not finish this book. There were no sympathetic characters and the violence was sickening. I was not able to return it so I wasted a credit.

Couldn’t Get Into This One
Revisado: 06-06-21
I found the dialogue stilted and the characters unsympathetic. Windflower is not a Brunetti or even a Montalbano.

This case is proving a difficult one for Chief Inspector Wexford. All he has to go on is his own intuitive suspicions. Was he becoming cynical and untrusting or was this one of the most ingenious crimes he had ever tackled?

Not Rendell’s Best
Revisado: 04-11-21
I found that I did not like Wexford in this book. He comes across as obsessive and weak with regard to women. Also, he makes up his mind as to the guilty party immediately rather than steadfastly following the evidence. I found this book difficult to finish. This is not one of Rendell’s best efforts.
