Historia
Hana Babic is a quiet middle-aged librarian in Minnesota who wants nothing more than to be left alone. But when a detective arrives with the news that her best friend has been murdered, Hana knows that something evil has come for her, a dark remnant of the past she and her friend had shared. Thirty years before, Hana was someone else: Nura Divjak, a teenager growing up in the mountains of war-torn Bosnia—until Serbian soldiers arrived to slaughter her entire family before her eyes. The events of that day thrust Nura into the war, leading her to join a band of militia fighters.

I did not like the narrator
Revisado: 02-26-25
Plot was different and somewhat informative of the Bosnian conflict. I liked the protagonist and wanted her to succeed. For me, the narrator had an accent that helped realism, but she didn’t seem to have experience narrating, just reading out loud. It detracted and made my interest wander.

Different type of mystery
Revisado: 10-09-24
I love the genre of mystery and have read hundreds. This is not a hero protagonist, nor is he clever or a crusader for justice. He's an ordinary broken Dad that stumbles around dealing with his stuff....but the people around him are messed up more than him. I wouldn't call the plot a page turner, but I did wonder how this idiot was going to stay alive....and I hoped he would cause he seemed like a good Dad.

It’s her first time returning to the island after her last mission went tragically awry four years prior, and Ellie has more than one ghost to lay to rest.

Historia
Forty-two-year-old Mia Thorne is not living her best life. After a disastrous career-and-relationship-ending event, she escapes New York City and moves to a sleepy river town in Pennsylvania, courtesy of a dead aunt she never knew. Aunt Hazel was the reclusive family nut, a self-proclaimed psychic. Of course, Mia’s dad always told her that she, too, had the gift, but after his death, her mother made sure to squelch the notion. When Mia stumbles over a body in the overgrown garden, the newcomer catches the eye of the police chief and his hotshot detective, Derek Fairfax.

Slow and boring
Revisado: 07-05-24
So much potential in plot summary, but full of boring chatter with ditzy stupid heroine in a small boring town. After 10 chapters I skipped to hear the end.

And now Ellie must use her new-found gift to catch a killer.

Different police procedural mystery
Revisado: 06-21-24
A bit slow in developing the main character’s ability to see aura’s, but it allowed the reader to get to know Ellie and her mentors. The plot was enhanced by her friendships and her unusual brother. Ellie’s desire to learn and help others with her new found ability keeps you involved and invested in solving the murder mystery.
I hope Joy Ellis writes more in this series.

Intriguing
Revisado: 02-06-24
I enjoyed watching the army vet turn into an excellent butler. I found the daily details oddly soothing. This book is not an action type of magical fantasy, but the various mysteries we’re interesting and I was invested in the characters. I look forward to other book in the series.

Deception and Betrayal
Revisado: 01-21-24
Twisty plot, who to trust, very bad guy, but who’s the “good guy”? Choices of power, money, and lust or truth, justice, and family-is it really so simple to decide when everything is moving fast? This book is exciting and oddly philosophical.

Historia
Washington, DC: Twin brothers are found drowned in a Perspex box, one gagged and strapped to a chair. Hoping his insight and expertise will help solve the case, the FBI summon Tayte back to the capital. But as he struggles to crack the clues, the killer strikes again - and again.

Terrible Plot
Revisado: 09-08-23
Serial killers are a lazy writer's ploy. JT's chasing his tail the whole time making stupid mistakes. But he's not as ridiculous as the way the FBI is portrayed. Skip this one in the series, don't waste a credit.

Sick of Nazi stories
Revisado: 06-20-23
I put off reading this book in the series because I'm sick of Nazi stories, but I wanted to find out about Tayt's origin/family tree that has been a theme throughout the series. I set it at 1.5 speed to get thru it and fast forwarded the sicko parts. This is a storyline done too many times, don't waste a credit, just stay curious.
