Historia
Captain Jessie Cinders faces a hazardous choice. The murderer of the governor’s nephew stands before him. But, the frightened teenager, Aurelia Garmenti, doesn’t resemble the commandant’s description of the vicious, hardened killer his security forces seek. To complicate matters, Jessie’s mind has felt Aurelia’s mental powers. The girl is an empath, who escaped the domes below and rode the El car to reach the JOS, Pyre’s orbital station. This shouldn’t be possible. The century-old agreement between topsiders and downsiders forbids the domes to knowingly admit empaths.

Re-release
Revisado: 03-27-25
I had already listened to this title when it showed up in my library as being newly released. I didn't need to re-buy it. It is a great book. It's just confusing since it is the same as the old version so far as I can tell.

Alex and Renée, the Omnian co-leaders, want to obtain the knowledge for the SADEs, who are humans’ closest allies. Alex, Renée, and Julien, a friend and a SADE, board the giant city-ship, Freedom, which sails for Méridien, the home world of the far-reaching human colonies of the Confederation.

Narration is disappointing
Revisado: 11-16-22
The narrators for the previous books in the two series that merged were much better. I had to lower the speed to 1.5x to make the “s” sounds tolerable. I was able to listen to the previous books much faster and more enjoyably.

I was expecting this book to be full of unscientific conspiracy theories. It turns out to be loaded with well-researched, scientific evidence that the conspiracies actually exist and are destroying our kids.

Historia
Pontzer's groundbreaking studies with hunter-gatherer tribes show how exercise doesn't increase our metabolism. Instead, we burn calories within a very narrow range: nearly 3,000 calories per day, no matter our activity level. This was a brilliant evolutionary strategy to survive in times of famine. Now it seems to doom us to obesity. The good news is we can lose weight, but we need to cut calories. Refuting such weight-loss hype as paleo, keto, anti-gluten, anti-grain, and even vegan, Pontzer discusses how all diets succeed or fail: For shedding pounds, a calorie is a calorie.

Shame Audible!
Revisado: 10-15-21
I’ve listened to over 30 titles and the audio quality of this one is worst I have ever heard by a lot. Audible should be ashamed to publish this title. And to do it for such a classic work - such an insult to a long dead author. I desperately want to listen to this, but my ears can’t take it.

Historia
The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

From the New York Times best-selling author of Seven Brief Lessons on Physics, The Order of Time, and Helgoland, a closer look at the mind-bending nature of the Universe. What are the elementary ingredients of the world? Do time and space exist? And what exactly is reality? Theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli has spent his life exploring these questions. He tells us how our understanding of reality has changed over the centuries and how physicists think about the structure of the Universe today.

Left wanting more
Revisado: 06-10-21
There is excess detail at the beginning and not enough at the end when it gets into information theory. The second to last chapter should have been 6 chapters. That said, it is a good start for a reader’s long journey of understanding.

Gripping
Revisado: 07-06-20
I feel guilty for having low expectations for this book. How interesting could the life of a wildly successful comedian be? Yet, I was drawn in by the title and gave it a go. It turned out to be an amazing story that opened my eyes to a part of the world I had never really understood.
