Historia
Oakland-bred LaVeesha “Vee” Gilliam (Coco Jones) is a determined single mother of an autistic son and a gifted aspiring coder. When Vee loses her job as a food-services worker at the onsite restaurant at Grapengine, a large Silicon Valley tech company, she’s unable to pay for her son’s much-needed specialized education. By a twist of fate, mistaken identity, and her tech skills, Vee meets Troy Wilson (Keith Powers), the company’s wealthy founder and CEO and a wunderkind in the tech industry, who believes that Vee is a college-educated techie who works at his company.

Felt like I was watching a movie. I love how this was produced. I will check out more of these by Flava and the author.

Historia
In November 1960, all of America watched as a tiny six-year-old black girl, surrounded by federal marshals, walked through a mob of screaming segregationists and into her school. An icon of the civil rights movement, Ruby Bridges chronicles each dramatic step of this pivotal event in history through her own words.

Civil rights icon and hero

When people say get over it slavery was so many years ago, I remark about stories like Ruby that people are able to tell for themselves TODAY. I’m crow is not far behind us and sadly many want to take us back today. America and its history is very musty. It must be told.

Jada Pinkett Smith was living what many would view as a fairy-tale of Hollywood success. But appearances can be deceiving, and as she felt more and more separated from her sense of self, emotional turmoil took hold. Sparing no detail, Worthy chronicles her life.

What happened with our favorites?

I’m so glad I finished this book. I first read Will’s book which was of course written before the 2022 incident. It was great hearing his life journey. Having read Will’s book help me put a lot of things into perspective while reading Worthy. I’m glad that Jada told her own story. I will always have love for Jada (aka Lena).
