Historia
High-powered businesswoman Lana Rubicon has a lot to be proud of: her keen intelligence, impeccable taste, and the L.A. real estate empire she’s built. But when she finds herself trapped 300 miles north of the city, convalescing in a sleepy coastal town with her adult daughter Beth and teenage granddaughter Jack, Lana is stuck counting otters instead of square footage—and hoping that boredom won’t kill her before the cancer does.

A “light hearted whodunnit” it is not
Revisado: 09-22-23
I have up on this. The description of “light hearted whodunnit” is extremely misleading. This very well could be a decent story but what I was expecting and the snails crawl pace the story took left me underwhelmed. The narration was also very slow. I’m not one to speed books but even at 1.2 speed it felt barely fast enough to listen to. If you’re looking for more character development than story or mystery this could be for you. Want for me and the false promise of a light hearted book with the fun title did not deliver for me.

Love this podcast!!
Revisado: 08-04-22
I have gone down the ultra rabbit hole and have been consuming EVERYTHING Rob Steger puts out. I love his interviews, his sense of humor, and that he is a regular guy and a middle of the pack crusher. Listening to him talk inspires me and makes me believe that I too can run 200 miles! Every episode has great tips and information mixes in. And I love love hearing about the different races and race recaps. This is different from other running and ultra podcasts I’ve listened to and I can’t get enough. Keep the great content coming! (And listen to his book!! It’s also fantastic!).

Historia
After more than a decade, when sisters Nikki, Sami, and Tori Knotek hear the word mom, it claws like an eagle’s talons, triggering memories that have been their secret since childhood. Until now. For years, behind the closed doors of their farmhouse in Raymond, Washington, their sadistic mother, Shelly, subjected her girls to unimaginable abuse, degradation, torture, and psychic terrors. Through it all, Nikki, Sami, and Tori developed a defiant bond that made them far less vulnerable than Shelly imagined.

What others are saying about this just being a list of horrific abuse is right- it’s just awful to listen to without anything else to take us along. Like the psychology behind it or what causes someone to do such horrific acts of violence? I had to stop listening. Cataloguing the extreme abuse towards people was not good for my mental health. I enjoy true crime novels but this one was too much to handle.

Painful narration...
Revisado: 05-29-21
Couldn’t get past chapter 2- the narration is choppy and the make voices painful to listen to. I like Mary Burton but passing on this book.

Historia
When you listen to Lily and the Octopus, you will be taken on an unforgettable ride. The magic of this novel is in the listening, and we don't want to spoil it by giving away too many details. We can tell you that this is a story about that special someone: the one you trust, the one you can't live without. For Ted Flask, that someone special is his aging companion, Lily, who happens to be a dog.

Beautiful tribute to the love of a four legged companion. I related to this book so much. Highly recommend it. I laughed out loud and I cried. Just jump in and let yourself be swept along for the ride.

Enjoyable book but...

Any additional comments?
The music at the beginning and ending of each chapter was ANNOYING!! It was so loud it drown out the narrators voice and it does nothing to add to the story. Audible- how about warning customers of this use of music at the beginning and/or end of every chapter? I find it takes away from the story and is very distracting. Most often it doesn't even fit with the tone or mood of the story.
