Historia
I’m the Dixon who left. Through the good, bad, and worst imaginable, I stayed gone. When I return home after a decade, I’m not surprised by the cold reception from my family...or my brother’s best friend. Emberly Olsen. I spent my childhood tormenting her. Now these days with her feel like the cruelest sort of unintended revenge. We’ve changed. She’s changed. Pure confidence and sensuality, but her pouty lips and heavy-lidded eyes scream contempt. And word around town? She’s untouchable.

Shallow
Revisado: 04-25-24
The meat of the story lacked depth. Felt like it was thrown together with no real consideration for the reader.

Historia
An “extraordinary” (New York Review of Books) novel based on the true story of how German war profiteer and factory director Oskar Schindler came to save more Jews from the gas chambers than any other single person during World War II. In this milestone of Holocaust literature, Thomas Keneally, author of The Book of Science and Antiquities and The Daughter of Mars, uses the actual testimony of the Schindlerjuden — Schindler’s Jews — to brilliantly portray the courage and cunning of a good man in the midst of unspeakable evil.

Superb!
Revisado: 07-10-23
I'm fascinated by this era and by the acts committed by people, both good and bad. As the author himself states, what would you do in that situation? How much would you be willing to do based on risk? The past too closely mirrors the today's present. This book should be a mandatory read for everyone.

Historia
What is going through the mind of a war criminal, tried by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg? Regret for his atrocious actions? Frantic desire to defend himself to the end? Desperate longing to be forgiven by his former enemies or craving of human kindness, even though he knows that he doesn’t deserve any… And the strongest of all, the fear to never again see the one, who he risked everything for, the only woman that he still continues to live for.

abrupt ending
Revisado: 05-13-23
The story itself was great, but the ending felt abrupt. the narration was tolerable. It did sound as if it was recorded in someone's home because I'm pretty sure I heard a baby crying a few times through the audio.

heartbreaking and beautiful
Revisado: 01-22-23
I loved this story so much as it weaved in and out of various pasts. I loved the way the Latin mysticism danced around Perla and her story. it's incredible to me that we do know speak more of la Guerra Sucia when to me it seems like the trials of that time are just as important as the Nuremberg Trials. More must be told and this story was beautifully done. I was sad when it ended because I wanted more.

Ridiculous Dialog
Revisado: 07-13-22
The author adds really annoying and unnecessary dialog. it distracts from the story. It trys too hard to be sacrumy cute vs just telling a good mystery. I'm glad I know how it ends but I wanted to stop it MANY times because of all the goofy details. it's a decent story but not great overall

Not my favorite Lisa Gardner. It didn't hold me like the others. Hopefully the series will get better. the narrator was alright. Not great...the voice she does for children and teens is high pitched and squeaky.

I struggled through this. In fact I fast forwarded. The plot is good, but the writer creates rediculous, mushy, drawn out dialog. It's just annoying and boring.
