Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

A Disappointing Farce
Revisado: 04-03-24
This one wasn't for me; I like an immersive story with the character building and exposition that come with it. Some character building definitely took place, including references to cPTSD and attachment theory, I just found the interruptions to reference/bypass writing tools to be a distraction and the plot to be a bit thin and contrived for the purpose of inserting literary eye rolls at writing devices.

Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

Great premise, needs more development
Revisado: 12-12-23
I really liked the concept, but a lot more was needed in story and character development. It was very unsatisfying when the book abruptly ended.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Great character and world development
Revisado: 08-06-23
Enjoyable listen except for the jarring change in narrator at the end, that was unexpected and unwanted. The steamy scenes were a bit slow and drawn out, but there were only a couple and fast forwarding a few times took care of them.

Historia
Fulfilling sex nourishes love, increases vitality, and boosts mental health. Unfortunately, prevailing attitudes about male sexuality and what is good sex work against these innate features by focusing on the excitement of ejaculation as the one and only goal. Using the tantric guidelines they have practiced for more than 25 years, Diana and Michael Richardson show men how to move beyond their preconceptions of sex as a goal-oriented - and often unintentionally stressful - event, so they can relax into sex as a meditative union of complementary energies.

If you enjoy spiritual bypass, you will love it
Revisado: 07-15-23
Strip the negativity, judgement and focus on the "wrong way" to approach sex and this book becomes a 2-hr or less read.
If someone is truly offering a better way to enjoy and connect through sex all they have to do is describe it and it would be tried and accepted, no need to trounce another way, certainly no need to spend over half the book on it.
if you want the core positive message without having to wade through the negativity, it's slow down and enjoy simple touch and being together, you're not responsible for making anything happen and it's not the goal.

Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

Round Earth Equals Polyamory being Natural
Revisado: 10-18-22
I came back to this book multiple times, trying to get through the first few hours, but the repeated non-sequitorial evidence given about how wrong we have been about things that are completely unrelated to interpersonal relationships equating to monogamy not being our natural relational pattern was too much. There is alsi an ugly snide tone to humanities unrelated misunderstandings of the world that is very hard to listen to and none of it provides any evidence for polyamory being a relationship model that results in a happier, healthy individual or relationships and I actually think Polyamory is great for anyone that it works for.

Gene Wolfe's "The Book of the New Sun" is one of speculative fiction's most-honored series. In a 1998 poll, Locus Magazine rated the series behind only "The Lord of the Rings" and The Hobbit as the greatest fantasy work of all time.

Leans heavily towards exposition
Revisado: 07-24-22
A lot of time is spent describing details, but without providing a larger framework for the exposition. Nothing about the character development leads me to invest and I am unable to discern a primary story line.

Revisado: 12-05-19
This was time well spent. I enjoyed the story and the telling as a whole and particularly appreciated the way Neil was able to deposit the murder of the family into the periphery of my awareness. It was a horrific act that needed to be included and Neil conveys it without overpowering the feel of the story, leaving it in a place where I could look at it as directly as I would like.
