Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

The storytelling!
Revisado: 09-23-24
This was by far one of my favorite books of the year. I read a review that described it as a modern day huck Finn. It’s that and so much more. Hilarious and heart breaking and I am obsessed with Demon.

Annoying narration

Good twist at the end. Character was believable. Narrator was annoying and ruined the story for me :-(

Historia
For the first 18 years of her life, Rose Gold Watts believed she was seriously ill. She was allergic to everything, used a wheelchair and practically lived at the hospital. Neighbors did all they could, holding fundraisers and offering shoulders to cry on, but no matter how many doctors, tests, or surgeries, no one could figure out what was wrong with Rose Gold. Turns out her mom, Patty Watts, was just a really good liar. After serving five years in prison, Patty gets out with nowhere to go and begs her daughter to take her in. The entire community is shocked when Rose Gold says yes.

So good! Great psychological thriller
Revisado: 01-09-24
I didn’t follow the Gypsy rose situation. In fact I found this book when I was googling who she was. So I wasn’t comparing this fictional story to anything else but man it was so good. I finished it two nights ago and keep telling people about it and thinking about it - so I had to come back and leave 5 stars

Redundant and slow
Revisado: 05-06-23
Like the rest of the world, I have gotten caught up in the popularity of Colleen Hoovers books. A coworker told me she loved this series. About 2/3 way through the book, I had to ask my coworker if it was just more chapters describing a kiss - because I was over it. She encouraged me that it was just about to get good. Decent enough twist, but way to drawn out where nothing happens.

Learned so much!
Revisado: 11-30-22
Perfect narration. I learned so much that I’ll probably forget half of it. I was surprised to learn that I am capable of crying about a bird I’ve never seen that went extinct decades ago. I give the Anthropocene… 5 stars.

Listened for book club
Revisado: 11-14-22
This book was recommended by a book club I just joined. The narration is excellent!
The ending left me shook.
I was also really bummed out when I got to work and had to wait eight hours to find out what happened in the second and third rounds of the fight!
If you are thinking this might not be for you because you aren’t into martial arts/fighting/race relations/ etc - just give it a chance. The story is for everyone.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Know more about Dave
Revisado: 11-10-21
First off, I’m not the hugest Dave Grohl fan. I love biographies. I agree with another review who says the name dropping gets really old. And the lists of bands or songs…. Pearl Jam, Green Day, Nine in nails to name a few. There were certain phrases that had me twitching by the end of a 10 hour book. “To name a few” and “to say the least”
I also found that by the end, most performances were “the most important performance” in his life. Whether it was his daughters talent show, or playing for the Grammies.
That said, there were stories and parts that I really enjoyed I’ve already retold the story about the moped in Australia and the coffee addiction. Go ahead and watch the YouTube video he references. It’s totally worth it.

Historia
As a doctor, I walk a dangerously delicate balance of being compassionate but not overly invested. The same is true in my personal life - love is a luxury I can’t afford. It isn’t until Dr. Westin Grant breaks down all my walls and offers me a future, I find myself wondering if I’m brave enough to risk my heart. When who I was and who I’ve tried to become collide during my clinical trial, the fate of one patient changes everything.

So redundant!!
Revisado: 08-13-21
I only made it an hour into this book. It is so redundant that it started making me crazy. I got that she is a very important doctor, she didn’t want anything serious with her boyfriend, and she has an important clinical trial coming up. All very important. (Eye roll)
On to the next book in my library!

Historia
Shelby works as a dog walker in northern California, and she’s just finished up her bi-weekly trip to the park with a husky named Pluto. When she brings him back to his house, she finds his owner - Todd Burke, a well-known local businessman and founder of an organic supplements company - lying on the bathroom floor, dead. A detective arrives on the scene. As she interviews Shelby, the body is inspected by a medical examiner, and more cops search Todd’s home, it becomes clear that the victim’s life was less picture-perfect than his clean-cut persona might lead you to believe.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Recommend completely!
Revisado: 05-03-21
So glad I got this on audible so I could hear Matthew read it. Although I did get annoyed when he would yell “green light!” Or “prescription!” when I had turned the radio up so much to listen to what he was saying.
His advice is spot on and quite worthy. I usually don’t use bookmarks or highlight books - but there were a few quotes I wanted to memorize.
I recommend this book to all my friends.
