Excellent Next of a Weird West Fantasy Series
Revisado: 06-19-23
This is the second book, and it'll only make sense if you've read the first one. it's a fun story with an interesting universe (great worldbuilding). We learn a lot more about what makes the world tick in this one, and character development is good over the course of the story

Historia
Hungry darkness, haunted guns, tunnels that move like snakes—the crystal mines of Medicine Rocks, Montana, are a place only the bravest and greediest dare. Discovered in 1866, the miraculous rock known as crystal quickly rose to become the most expensive substance on the planet, driving thousands to break the treaties and invade the sacred buffalo lands of the Sioux. But mining crystal risks more than an arrow in the chest. The beautiful rock has a voice of its own. A voice that twists minds and calls unnatural powers. A voice that turns men into monsters.

A great short fantasy story
Revisado: 01-20-22
Maggie is so good at creating deep characters in very little story space. This feels like a sketch, and yet there's so much depth to the story, even still.

Fits Well with the Avatar Universe
Revisado: 03-30-21
Great writing and story with lots of unexpected turns. The author did very well at crafting the details to make the world come alive as befitting to a novelized version of this beloved pretend universe. There's a f/f romance, as well.

This book hurt the whole way through... and I couldn't stop listening. There are a lot of mature themes, and they were tastefully handled, and mostly there to support the story.

Historia
The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

A fun romp. a developed world. great characters
Revisado: 07-16-20
I caught myself sneaking away to get more time to listen to this story.
It's interesting to follow as the book imagines a world where magic and technology are integrated, and everyone has figured out how to make the most of it.
The main character, Opal, is very someone I could relate to a lot.

Historia
When the results of Earth's genetic experiments fled from their makers, they took their own name as they left humanity behind; centuries later, the Pelted have spread into a multi-world alliance of cultures and languages, cribbed from Terra or created whole-cloth. Claws and Starships collects six stories of the Pelted, ranging from the humor of a xenoanthropologist on the wrong side of mythology to more serious works considering the implications of genetic engineering in a far-future classroom.

You can tell that there's a vast universe here to be explored. And the way these stories are spun had me on the edge of my seat (these aren't the same predictable plots you've heard so many times). I'll definitely be listening to more from this author

Historia
Using his legendary ability to get to the root of human potential, Napoleon Hill digs deep to reveal how fear, procrastination, anger, and jealousy prevent us from realizing our personal goals. This long-suppressed parable, once considered too controversial to publish, was written by Hill in 1938 following the publication of his classic bestseller, Think and Grow Rich. Annotated and edited for a contemporary audience by Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Three Feet from Gold coauthor Sharon Lechter, this book is profound, powerful, resonant, and rich with insight.

Revisado: 02-13-18
if you want to know how to control and subdue a population without their knowing you're doing it, this is the book for you.
If you want to break loose from the noise in your head and accomplish great things with your time on Earth, this book is also for you.
The devil interviewed here is definitely a secular humanist (not surprising for a devil), which is helpful to keep in mind.

Would you believe it took nearly 500 years to translate the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible? That's because the ESV builds on the great translations of the past - including William Tyndale's New Testament of 1526 and the King James Version (KJV) of 1611. But the ESV Bible also builds on the best Christian scholarship of the last 100 years.
