Historia
In 1986, Paul Newman and his closest friend, screenwriter Stewart Stern, began an extraordinary project. Stuart was to compile an oral history, to have Newman’s family and friends and those who worked closely with him, talk about the actor’s life. And then Newman would work with Stewart and give his side of the story. The only stipulation was that anyone who spoke on the record had to be completely honest. The result is The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man—revelatory and introspective, personal and analytical, loving and tender in places, always complex and profound.

The man inside
Revisado: 09-18-24
I’m not sure why I chose to listen to this book but I’m so glad I did. I really enjoyed it for the insights it provided through the people who knew and loved Paul Newman and from Paul himself. Paul discloses how easy it is to hide yourself in the persona you choose to present to the world and how freeing it is if you can learn how to let your real self out.

I really enjoyed hearing Sarah’s first hand experiences and especially her insight into the character of Donald Trump. It would be wonderful for our country if we had media coverage more like Sarah.

Dave packs this book with so much information. One reading is not enough especially when it’s audio. I will need to buy the hard-copy to explore the information further.

My husband and I listened together on a road trip. Loved the book. We really liked the format of being non-sequential. I will certainly pick chapters to read again. I’m also inspired to write … maybe just journal for now. I’m recommending this book to everyone.

Historia
This wasn’t the plan. Judge Herman Calvert, 88, never thought he’d outlive his beloved wife, Marie. Yet now he finds himself alone, a grieving widower, desperate for escape from the home they built together, where every turn brings a painful reminder of his late wife. So the judge retreats to his lake cabin in rural Wisconsin, a place where an old man can find peace and solitude. A place where nature can take its course. But something new has moved in.

Very entertaining
Revisado: 11-05-20
The basic story is engaging and kept my attention throughout. Mr Koepp does a nice job of layering the story within the story so the reader can experience the surface plot and also relate to the feelings inside.
Kevin Bacon’s performance is superb. I was attracted to the story because of the subject matter but also because of the quality of Mr Koepp and Mr Bacon.

Faced with the ceaseless stream of news about war, crime, and terrorism, one could easily think we live in the most violent age ever seen. Yet as New York Times bestselling author Steven Pinker shows in this startling and engaging new work, just the opposite is true: violence has been diminishing for millennia and we may be living in the most peaceful time in our species's existence.

Interesting study on violence
Revisado: 05-31-17
While the statistics were a little too much for me to retain, this book walks the reader through an expansive look at violence through out history and uses facts to support the evidence and interpretation. In the end we can see that the "good old days" were not all that good. The book does show the reader that many of the decisions made in the past in regards to the way people were treated were based on current needs, beliefs and knowledge of the day. It is encouraging that we learn and grow through each generation.
