Historia
Cheyenne Ashby knows the dark and disturbing history of her hometown of Blue Cliff, Virginia, all too well. It’s why she left. Growing up deep within the woods with her eccentric mother, Constance, she was raised on the unusual customs and generational superstitions linked to the local legend of an evil entity that haunts the forest. Five years ago, the bodies of three children were found in the woods. It was a man—not a mythical beast—named Jasper Clinton who was convicted of these heinous crimes.

Loved this story!
Revisado: 04-20-25
Twisty and atmospheric, and the narrator was fabulous! I loved the thread of folklore that ran through the story, and that ending was great!

Historia
The discovery of a young woman’s body drifting down the Thames, her hair adorned with flowers and her legs wrapped in blue silk like a mermaid’s tail, presents Lord Jason Redmond and Inspector Daniel Haze with a puzzling new mystery. Who was she, why was she murdered, and what led the killer to leave her body displayed this way? Was it an act of love, meant to make the victim appear beautiful in death, or was there a more sinister reason?

Terrrible narrator
Revisado: 04-16-25
The story is great, as they all have been! The new narrator is not good, though. There’s no distinction between character voices and her “American” accent is truly awful. Her voice is also quite breathy and hushed, which all combines for distracting listening. I’ll probably just read the rest and skip the audiobooks.

Historia
Since the Others allied themselves with the cassandra sangue, the fragile yet powerful human blood prophets who were being exploited by their own kind, the delicate dynamic between humans and Others changed. Some, like Simon Wolfgard, wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn see the new, closer companionship as beneficial - both personally and practically.

Narrator is annoying
Revisado: 02-13-25
This is such a fun and interesting series, but this narrator is not good. She can’t decide if “picture” or “pitcher” is correct and says both throughout, even in the same paragraph. And not knowing the correct pronunciation of Mediterranean just makes her sound uneducated. “Medi-terren,” really?

Historia
Based on 20 years of research and recently unearthed evidence, this is the remarkable new account of an essential piece of American mythology - the trial of Lizzie Borden. The Trial of Lizzie Borden tells the true story of one of the most sensational murder trials in American history. When Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally hacked to death in Fall River, Massachusetts, in August 1892, the arrest of the couple’s younger daughter Lizzie turned the case into international news and her trial into a spectacle unparalleled in American history.

Great story, terrible narration
Revisado: 01-09-25
I listened to an interview with the author of this book, and it was so good, I immediately bought the audiobook... unfortunately without looking at the reviews relating to the narration. I don't know if it's the editing or the reader, but the delivery is by turns jerky and with weird pauses, and absolutely robotic and nearly monotone. I actually thought it might be AI! (It's not.) Anyway, the book is really good, and the author is knowledgeable. I wouldn't say there's anything really NEW here, but still a good read. READ, that is, not listen. I gave up the audiobook and just read it myself.

Worst narration ever
Revisado: 01-15-24
Story is good, but I’ve given up the audiobook because of the narrator. The narration is delivered in an American accent, for an unfathomable reason, and every! single! sentence! of the narration ends in an exclamation mark, according to the reader. I expected breathless squealing at any second, and finally just gave it up.

Good story with a nice twist
Revisado: 12-11-22
Trigger warnings abound for this series (suicide, sexual assault). The subject matter is grim (I mean, the premise is murder…) but the story was creative, the mystery had plenty of clues along the way, and there was a really good twist! I thought I had it all figured out, but I didn’t, and I loved that. The voice actors did a really good job of differentiating themselves, and making the events believable. Solid show, satisfying ending!
