Excellent storytelling and narration. Not surprising, considering it was done in conjunction with American History Tellers.

Historia
In 1855, with the United States at odds over slavery, the lawyer Abraham Lincoln wrote a note to his best friend, the son of a Kentucky slaveowner. Lincoln rebuked his friend for failing to oppose slavery. But he added: “If for this you and I must differ, differ we must,” and said they would be friends forever. Throughout his life and political career, Lincoln often agreed to disagree.

A great story read by a familiar voice
Revisado: 10-08-23
I very much enjoyed the familiar voice of Steve Inskeep reading his interesting work
on Lincoln and the people who surrounded him. Lincoln’s life is my favorite historical subject, and I enjoyed this fresh approach to better understanding the man and his circumstances.

I admire the author’s courage, and this is an interesting story. The last few chapters are the meat of it, however.

Historia
Hated and hailed, excoriated and revered, Abraham Lincoln was at the pinnacle of American power when secessionists gave no quarter in a clash of visions bound up with money, race, identity, and faith. In him we can see the possibilities of the presidency as well as its limitations. This book tells the story of Lincoln from his birth on the Kentucky frontier to his leadership during the Civil War to his tragic assassination: his rise, his self-education, his loves, his bouts of depression, his political failures, his deepening faith, and his persistent conviction that slavery must end.

I have read many books on the life of Abraham Lincoln, who is truly one of the greatest Americans. This book presents many sides of a very complex man. It was hard for me to pause in the reading. The story is so heartfelt and the emotions of all the characters make the story so real, as if I were there. This is an excellent read, and I highly recommend it.

Another compelling novel by Michael Connelly. I could not stop listening. Nobody writes better crime genre stories than this author. The character development and weaving of the stories is unsurpassed.

Historia
Once described by The Washington Post as "the most interesting mayor you've never heard of", Pete Buttigieg, the 36-year-old Democratic mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has improbably emerged as one of the nation's most visionary politicians. First elected in 2011, Buttigieg left a successful business career to move back to his hometown, previously tagged by Newsweek as a "dying city", and transformed it into a shining model of urban reinvention.

Inspiring

This book left me feeling warm and hopeful. It’s interesting to hear from someone young, well educated, and extraordinarily intelligent, who has a mature understanding of every day American life. At nearly 70, I am aghast at the state of our politics and culture, and worry for my adult children and my grandchildren. Mayor Pete’s story and grounded thinking gives me a glimmer of hope for the future.

The two stories in this book are compelling. If you enjoy the detective/thriller genre, you will want to read this one. I hope Michael Connelly will continue to write stories in the Bosch series. There is still a lot of life and Harry Bosch and the familiar cast of characters, Mickey Haller and Bosch’s police colleagues past and present. I love the book!

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Another masterpiece by Michael Connelly
Revisado: 07-22-17
Nobody owns the police thriller genre like Michael Connelly. This first book for character Det. Renee Ballard is classic Connelly. His descriptions are so complete and nuanced that listening to the words is like a movie running in your brain. In the Bosch tradition, Ballard is smart and relentless. As always there's careful attention to character development search that the reader or listener feels a connection to the characters. This is another book with interesting , well thought out and well developed plot lines. Once you start, it's hard to put it down. Can't wait to hear more adventures with Detective Ballard. Bravo!
