Historia
It was a glittering event full of A-listers, hosted by Eliza Lane and Brant Fitzhugh, a celebrity couple who’d conquered both Hollywood and Broadway. And now Eve Dallas has made her entrance—but not as a guest. After raising a toast, Fitzhugh fell to the floor and died, with physical symptoms pointing to cyanide, and the police have crashed the party. From all accounts, he wasn’t the kind of star who made enemies. Everyone loved him—even his ex-wife. And since the champagne cocktail that killed him was originally intended for Eliza, it’s possible she was the real target.

Get The Hook
Revisado: 02-20-23
I’ve read and listened to 98% of the Eve Dallas series and can say that most of them were pretty good. Susan is one of the best narrators around, but she couldn’t save this one. The story has so much filler and is padded with the characters saying the same thing in vaguely different ways.
I was hoping for a return to form, but found myself bored and distracted. How long is the candy thief arc going to run and when will the homes for Peabody and Mavis be complete? The premise is too familiar and predictable. Same stuff, new book. It’s been an interesting run. Time to close the curtain and wrap this up.

But he's managed to steer clear of street drugs…so far. Jacob Marks has a medicine cabinet filled with every over-the-counter remedy known to man, but none of them are doing much for his mood - and his long, fruitless days of combing through records at The Clinic are taking a heavy toll.

Bitter Pill Indeed
Revisado: 04-03-20
The Psycop series is one of my favorite of all time. Fell in love with Vic, Jacob, Crash, and so many more of the characters in this universe. The growth happening in these stories is so refreshing. I have taken to reading the last few very slowly because I know I’ll have to wait for the next one. The ending of this one is a Bitter Pill, indeed. Definitely didn’t see the twist coming and now we have to wait !!!

Oy Vey!
Revisado: 10-13-19
I have a fondness for stories about Jewish life but, I was totally unprepared for this one. I’ve discovered many secrets about my own family that made me think twice about blood being thicker than water. This one made me glad that I decided to remain single. I feel so bad for Danny’s mother and the other unfortunate women that ‘married’ Raymond. Also, the children that had this narcissistic psychopath for a ‘father’. I am a product of life in a much different time and place than Danny’s mom and can’t relate to her response to the events that took place, but I can say that the end, though grisly and horrific, was satisfying to me. I am sure that many will not agree and think that I am heartless but, I am a believer in karma and couldn’t have written a better ending. I am not elaborating on the stories content because I feel it is a tale that deserves to be read to be totally understood. I admire the author’s tenacity for seeking the truth about something that affected so many lives in such an awful way. Some good things did result from this journey, for which I am also glad. I would like to read more stories by him.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

To Miss This Would Be Criminal
Revisado: 03-13-18
I'd never seen Trevor on The Daily Show, nor have I seen any of his stand up. The only thing I heard about him was the controversy about him replacing Jon Stewart. I honestly had no intention of reading/listening to this book but, something compelled me to do so. I am sorry that I didn't do it sooner. This book evokes such a range of emotion. There is room for laughter, tears, outrage, bitterness, astonishment, and a whole plethora of things I can't express. Such an intelligent and eloquent telling of life and living in South Africa during the apartheid. It certainly makes me want to delve deeper into this country's history. I am recommending this to anyone who will listen and cannot tell you how thrilled I am that this is going to be a movie. While listening, I thought to myself that it would be a fascinating film. Serendipitous indeed.

Bogus
Revisado: 08-21-16
I really can't say how much I disliked this story. The main character is so much more whiny than any heroine in the Harlequin romances I read as a teenager. Jonah is so immature and I can't feel any sympathy for him. He handled everything so badly. The way he dealt with the situation with his best friend was well intentioned, but quite high handed. His father was the only one with any sense. I will be returning this ASAP. This pushed all my buttons and not in a good way. I don't know who was worse for Linc - Jonah or his ex-fiancé. Personally, I think he would be better off alone.

That's the Spirit
Revisado: 01-12-16
I loved this book when I read it and love listening to it even more. The love and humor that went into this is evident on every page. Jason, Sam, and Timmy are made for each other. The chilling psychopath sister and her deadbeat lover added depth and I rooted for the uncles all the way. John Inman is a genius who mixes up all the emotions and serves up plenty of feels. I look forward to each of his wonderful stories. This was the first time that I experienced the narrator, but he was perfect and his voice for Timmy is so cute. Didn't want it to end. Now I have to wait patiently for the next one.

Revisado: 12-11-15
I am always so pumped when a PsyCop novel/audiobook comes out. I've been waiting for this one with baited breath as it is the longest in the series and I could listen to Gomez Pugh all day...and night. I even warmed to Dreyfuss; as sleazy as he is. The characterizations were on point and Victor and Jacob remain my favorite m/m couple evah. Still, I wanted more Crash and Ms. Mattie as well as more of Jacob's family. Already can't wait to get the next one. Thanks Jordan and Gomez 👍🏽👏🏽🌈

I Wish...
Revisado: 12-06-15
I wish that the people in charge of choosing the narrators of audiobooks consider everything about the stories. Age of the main characters, ethnicity, regional and international dialects, etc. I've listened to many audio books narrated by Mr. Topsfield and consider him to be an okay choice for many books. But there have been some, this one in particular that leave much to be desired. The characters in Suthpin Boulevard are from Spanish, heavily ethnic NY neighborhoods. The accents are definitely not Hispanic nor Brooklynese. It took me out of the story and lessened my enjoyment. Choosing a narrator that has a command of dialects would increase the marketability and authenticity of the audio productions and could also make a mediocre book extraordinary. I did read this story and was really excited to hear it, only to be disappointed. Please consider this for future projects.

Sloane loves a good mystery. He grew up as the son of two psychiatrists, so he finds most people tediously easy to figure out. He finds his way to Pennsylvania State University, longing for a rural experience, and ends up being lured into joining a frat by Micah Springfield, the hippest guy on campus.

I love all books by Ms. Easton; this is no exception. Tristan really captures the essence of both Sloane and Hank. I really like the interaction with Hank's family - Grinch stole my heart 😍. I hope that there is a plan for Micah's audio book very soon.

Historia
Finn Stewart takes one look at Adam as he's applying to Candy Heaven and decides he's much too fascinating to leave alone. Finn is bright and shiny - and has never been hurt. Adam is wary of his attention from the very beginning - Finn is dangerous to every sort of peace Adam is forging, and Adam may just be too damaged to let him in at all.

Sweet 🍭🍬🍫
Revisado: 09-07-15
Amy Lane is one of my go to authors. I love everything about her. I am particularly happy when she writes with humor. Candy Man has that in spades, but that's not to say that there isn't any of her trademark angst and characters that you'd like to see swinging over the Golden Gate Bridge with a school of sharks underneath, waiting for the rope to snap. Adam and Finn are adorable and the candy store crew are people that I would like to meet. So glad that Adam has at least one family member who knows his worth and loves him unconditionally - who BTW, has his own story that I can't wait to hear. Philip, as always, is wonderful to listen to. Not sure who chooses her narrators, but they seem to get it right most of the time. This is another delicious offering that satisfied my sweet tooth without the risk of cavities 😋
