Historia
When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency, hoping for help locating her missing daughter, Holly Gibney is reluctant to accept the case. Her partner, Pete, has Covid. Her (very complicated) mother has just passed away. And Holly is meant to be on leave. But something in Penny’s desperate voice makes it impossible to turn her down. Meanwhile, mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. But they are also harboring a shocking, unholy secret.

It was good, but I expected more...
Revisado: 11-25-23
I love Holly. It was a bit disappointing that Will Patton wasn't the narrator - his pauses and more monotone voice for Holly brought out her sarcastic humor and detail oriented personality. The narrator did do a good job of overall story telling. The people upset about the political nature of the story...it was a time period in which we were all a part of whether we liked it or not, we had to keep moving forward and you should too with this book.
King's story telling was well done, almost. Up to the climax in the story, it felt like the same Holly we knew from before. However, her character seems rushed and out of place as the ending nears. The story lacked the fiction that King is well known for and the story felt more "real" than fantastical horror. The antagonists were almost unbelievable in their abilities as the story was set more in the "real world".
The book in my opinion wouldn't be one to re-read/listen to. I'd rather re-read the Bill Hodges trilogy with Holly as her self once more.

Spoiler Alert! Here's my summary...you're welcome.
Him: "Hey, I know we just met and I helped you after you saw a guys head get squished. Wanna come over and write a book for me while my vegetable of a wife is upstairs and my 5 year old is somewhere in the house...and maybe we can watch some HGTV and chill? Oh and I already love you because I read your book."
Her: "Yea, but only if I can read your wife's diary of her most intimate thoughts."
Him: "Deal."

Historia
It was supposed to be a nice family vacation. Their first time out camping. Quality time with the family - more about communicating with each other as opposed to whatever electronic devices got them online. But from the moment they got lost and gave up looking for the camp site, opting to stay in a pretty-looking field deep in the country, things start to go from bad to worse, and soon they find themselves running for their lives.

Over the top without enough substance
Revisado: 03-01-16
I enjoyed the narrator. The story took a bit to get off the ground and I didn't feel like there was an actual conclusion. It's also a bit too graphic for me. I like true crime and murder mysteries, but sections in this just seemed over the top. I won't be listening to it again nor recommending it to friends.
