Time well spent to listen to Riley's story, and I appreciate Mike's courage in hosting her. A must-listen in Mike's library of episodes.

The staggering array of guests and topics Mike (and Chuck) host never ceases to amaze me. Their conversations are the perfect mix of education and humor, with a dash of charming barbershop quartet thrown in for good measure. I'm hooked.

Richard Armitage NAILS it.
Revisado: 03-25-21
I'm a big fan of the Hercule Poirot TV series featuring David Suchet (the best Poirot ever), but I wasn't sure what to expect when I listened to this book. Would it be as good as the show? In a word: Absolutely! Richard Armitage voices all the characters impeccably. I knew he was a fabulous actor, but this performance was outstanding. I hope he graces us with more Agatha Christie in the future; I'm totally spoiled now!

Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

Funny and educational with an unpleasant surprise
Revisado: 08-29-19
My boys (ages 13 and 15) and I enjoyed it very much, while my 9 year old daughter wasn't as impressed. Unfortunately, as we were listening to Chapter 3 about Elizabeth I and Mary, the author included the word "bitching," which I wasn't expecting at all. This book is clearly targeting children and teens, so why the author feels necessary to include that type of language is beyond me.

Captivating

My three kids and I were captivated from beginning to end. The story sparked some good discussions about the treatment of women and Indians, the perseverance of the explorers, and the expansion of the U.S. west of the Mississippi. The narrator was exceptional.

With Father in Washington and Cuffy away visiting a sick cousin, almost anything might happen to the Melendys left behind at the Four-Story Mistake. In the Melendy family, adventures are inevitable: Mr. Titus and the catfish; the villainy of the DeLacey brothers; Rush's composition of Opus Three; Mona's first rhubarb pie and all the canning; Randy's arrowhead; the auction and fair for the Red Cross.

We can't listen enough!
Revisado: 06-28-17
My children and I have listened to this book at least three times, and we have every intention of keeping it a regular in our audio library. Pamela Dillman is superb; she breathes life into each character. The author has a way with words that enchants even my youngest child. I thoroughly appreciate Enright's knack for describing the thoughts and feelings of each character with such authenticity. Sometimes I forget that the Melendy children aren't real! Each of the Melendy books is a treasure, but this one is my favorite.
