Historia
A millennium into the future two advancements have altered the course of human history: the colonization of the galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain. Isaac Asimov's Robot novels chronicle the unlikely partnership between a New York City detective and a humanoid robot who must learn to work together. Like most people left behind on an over-populated Earth, New York City police detective Elijah Baley had little love for either the arrogant Spacers or their robotic companions.

More of the same
Revisado: 01-28-18
This book feels very similar to others by Asimov. It may be that I'm reading it 60 years after it was written and that's why I didn't enjoy it as much.
Still an ok detective story, even if the sci fi element is now out of date.

When Imogen returns to work at Glossy after six months away, she can barely recognize her own magazine. Eve, fresh out of Harvard Business School, has fired "the gray hairs", put the managing editor in a supply closet, stopped using the landlines, and hired a bevy of manicured and questionably attired underlings who text and tweet their way through meetings.

Frustratingly Good Listen
Revisado: 11-24-16
I absolutely love the main character, Imogen. That's honestly what made it so hard to listen to this book. She is just a lovely British woman who never speaks out of place, but she has to deal with the most obscene millennial taking over her magazine. I'm the exact same age as Eve in this book, and her behavior is appalling to me. I guess I was just raised better, but there were times I couldn't believe the things Eve would get away with doing.
After all that, I do have to say the book came to a good ending, even if it felt a little short and rushed. I was honestly surprised it was over so quickly after all the drama that led up to the end.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

Amazing journey
Revisado: 04-26-16
The concept of mixing the present with lots of flashbacks sounded unappealing to me, but Cheryl Strayed did an amazing job of tying her story together. Instead of coming out jumbled, each look into her past only digs deeper into who she is as a woman. A great listen for anyone who enjoys a strong female lead who can admit she isn't always right or prepared.

Great story!
Revisado: 12-24-15
I really enjoyed this book. The narrators were incredible in bringing life to all the characters. The style of switching perspectives was a little frustrating when I wanted to hear how the other character was getting on, but it makes sense after hearing the entire book.
All in all, this was a great listen. I'm recommending this book to everyone who likes a story where a romance finds a way to over come great challenges.

Not My Kind of Book
Revisado: 09-02-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
A person who would like this book would like being shocked out of their innocent views of the world. That person also wouldn't watch Girls, Lena Dunham's HBO show that is loosely based on her life.
Would you ever listen to anything by Lena Dunham again?
Lena Dunham is alright as far as narrators go. This being a collection of her own essays, I imagined she would have more emotion in reading it. It seemed like she was trying to stay calm, which I thought detracted from the emotions in her stories.
What aspect of Lena Dunham’s performance would you have changed?
She could have used a wider range of emotions in her voice to tell her stories, but she mainly sticks to 2 or 3.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I guess this book was disappointing. I was currently binge watching Girls while listening to this book, so it may have been that I just overloaded on her perspective. It sounded like she wanted there to be more problems in her life, but ultimately she was still raised in an upper middle class family with lots of privileges.
Any additional comments?
I must be a pretty common person living an everyday life. Most of the points made in this book are revealed in a way that I thought were supposed to shock or impress, but instead they just fell flat. Great, privileged white girl goes to college and has a bunch of random, crazy sex. Welcome to the world! These things happen pretty regularly.

Historia
Fanny Price, a poor relation of the rich Bertrams, is reluctantly adopted into the family, to be brought up at Mansfield Park, where she is condescendingly treated. Only her cousin, Edmund, a young clergyman, appreciates her fine qualities. Fanny soon falls in love with him, but Edmund is, unfortunately, drawn to the shallow and worldly Mary Crawford.

Not my favorite from Austen
Revisado: 08-18-15
I really enjoy pieces from this time period, but it took me longer than usual to find interest in this book. I've read several of Jane Austen's other books and enjoyed them more. The narrator is wonderful and I would enjoy listening to her again, just not if it's a repeat of this book.
