I can't tell you how many stories I've read over the years that were set in Oklahoma but didn't feel like oklahoma at all. This book, felt like Oklahoma. It's hard to explain Oklahoma's unique history with the various tribes forced to relocate to the area along with the non-native aspect, but the author did a good job of balancing history and fiction.

The story itself is captivating and kept me saying "one more chapter. " I will admit that I don't fully understand the side story with the wife and pregnancy in Rhode Island. I'm not entirely sure how it fits with abduction story in Oklahoma other than to give the character a present and to show the reader how the past has affected Syd.

I really enjoyed the book.

I will say that the story drew me in. Set in an alternate universe similar to our own, this universe has magic and some magic users are more powerful than others. The story is pretty face-paced, contains adequate emotional intellegence and I look forward to reading others in the series.
But, and you knew there was a but, I don't feel like Renee Raudman was right for this book. Her accent comes and goes. The story is set it Houston, Texas not somewhere in the bayou of Louisanna, and yes, there is a difference for those who don't know. I would have loved to hear Amanda Ronconi or Lorelei King lend their voices to the snarky back and forth between Nevada and Mad Rogan. Speaking of Mad Rogan, Rogan is the man's last name. His nickname is Mad, but we spend the whole freaking book calling him Mad Rogan. This grated on my nerves. If his name was John Smith you wouldn't spend the whole book calling him John Smith, you would just call him John. He was also called The Scourge of Mexico which, other than Houston being a few hundred miles from Mexico, I don't get. Was he of Mexican descent and I missed that part? If so, he probably should have had a hispanic accent instead of the weird bayou one he had, sometimes.

I'm not going to review all the stories (episodes) but give a series overview.

Imagine a world in which Law and Order was set in an urban fantasy world. That's exactly what this series is like. The only thing missing is the "DUN DUN" sound for which the television series is known and recognized.

Each story is comprised of a crime, the investigation, the court proceedings, and a wrap up. They are fairly short. I listened to these on Audible where there are three stories (episodes) per book.

Detective Lennie Briscoe is actually a half catholic/ half Jewish/ half werewolf named Leery Oriscoe (yes, I know that math doesn't quite add up). His new partner is Dru Nogan, half vampire/ half succubus and maybe has a secret or two. The Lieutenant is none other than the ghost of Van Helsing. Many other character names are altered to protect the innocent. For example instead of Jack McCoy played by Sam Waterston, we now have Sam McCoy as our Executive Assistant DA. There are many other Easter Eggs throughout the series. A nod to Kevin Hearne and his delightful character, Irish Wolfhound Oberon appears in one of the later stories. Catching the Easter Eggs is half the fun of this series. The banter between characters is fun and keeps the stories from becoming too draining.

I'm glad I picked these books up. The first one was included in the Audible Plus membership so I took a chance. I'm not even mad about having to use one of my credits for the second book (containing episodes 4-6).

Of course I would have preferred a 10 hour story with all the details, but this was a nice novella. I would love to see it become a series.

I enjoyed this book. It was a fun little read. The heroine got on my nerves a bit, the modern slang was a little over the top at times. In the beginning of the story Isabel uses her cell phone multiple times. However, in the epilogue she thinks back to how she will be traveling back in time in 1973... so where did her modern cell phone come from exactly? Also, the fact that the author tweaked history to make Ada Byron live a long life was a disappointment, Ada Byron died at the age of 36, 17 years after the end of the story.

I love Molly Harper. I love Amanda Ronconi. I haven't tried Molly Harper's "Writing As" so when this popped up in my search I thought, why not. I didn't realize they were going to be erotica but that didn't really bother me- I could've done five minutes worth of research to learn this had it really been an issue, nor did I expect all the foul language, but I don't mind the F'bomb being dropped.

The stories are about an hour a piece which doesn't leave much time for the actual story so what we end up with is 30 minutes to set up the story and characters. Luckily it's all taking place in one location (don't think about that too much because...ew, there are a lot of body fluids in this restaurant which I think would probably shut it down if this was real world) so some of the characters overlap which helps to define the major players.

The other thirty minutes consists of the sex scene or the events leading up to the sex scene. While it's not really half and half that seems to be the major outline for these brief tales.

The writing is good, quick-witted, and Amanda Ronconi nails the humor as always. For the most part I like the stories and will listen to the others. I do wish they were longer giving the reader longer to know the characters. Perhaps if it had been one full-length book with all these couples it would've been a little better, but I'm not a writer, I'm just a reader.

This was a fun little Christmas novella. In order to break a curse the mad duke's sons must be married by Christmas Eve. Garrett Sinclair left home 7 years ago but has returned just in time to marry the woman his brothers have chosen for him. This will be a loveless marriage with the couple living separately for the remainder of their days. Lady Anne has no marriage prospects and is disowned by most of her family after she ran away with a tutor years earlier, the tutor was paid off and she expects to remain a spinster for the rest of her life, that is until the Sinclair brothers make her an offer that will give her financial freedom. What Garrett and Anne did not expect was to fall in love. Yes, this novella is short, but it is a fully fleshed out story.

I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was well performed though I would not have chosen a man to narrate this story. His female voices came across as whiny in places, but not so bad as to make me stop listening. The note from the author explaining how she writes fiction but drew greatly upon historical information was a nice bonus at the end that often does not make it into audio editions. Overall I am well pleased.
