Like being a close confidant of a royal confidant
Revisado: 09-09-20
I can’t believe that other listeners have complained about the author’s narration. She is an absolute delight to listen to. I can’t imagine anyone else telling this story so successfully. Lady Anne has entertaining, shocking, and sometimes sad stories to tell about people most of us would otherwise only know about through historical accounts or gossip magazines. I felt like I was having a cup of tea or perhaps a really nice London gin with the most interesting and articulate grandmother or elderly aunt in existence. Or rather eavesdropping since no one I know personally has partied with rockstars or shared a nanny with the Prince of Wales.

Terrible, terrible, reader
Revisado: 11-24-14
Would you try another book from Mary Jo Putney and/or Steven Crossley?
I would love to buy the next book in this series but will not because it is also read by Steven Crossley. He reads the female voices in a tone of ridicule, like he is making fun of or satirizing them.
Would you be willing to try another one of Steven Crossley’s performances?
Maybe if he were reading a book by a misogynist writer like Jonathan Swift.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
A different reader
Any additional comments?
It is sad that a novel by such a talented writer of historical romance is being read by a man who sounds like he is making fun of the genre.

Yes, it is really that good
Revisado: 02-26-14
If you could sum up Lord of Scoundrels in three words, what would they be?
Smart, sensual, and fun
Who was your favorite character and why?
The complex, tortured, hero reminded me of those created by Laura Kinsale, another writer whose smart, complicated characters elevate her books to the best of this genre. The erotic tension between hero and heroine makes this novel a pleasure to "read." You won't want to stop listening.
Any additional comments?
I, too, have listened to hundreds of audiobooks, and this may be the most pleasurable one I've experienced. I've long admired Kate Reading as a reader and this book really brings out her talents. She does a wonderful job with the sharp witty dialogue. I hope Audible brings out more of Loretta Chase's novels soon.

Any additional comments?
Heyer's original inspiration as a novelist came from tales she set in the eighteenth century. Later she went on to the Regency. If you want to read her at her best, read the fiction from the period that first inspired her.

No sense of the historical period
Revisado: 11-28-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Likable characters. Historical accuracy. Probable plot
What could Julia London have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She could have learned more about the historical period in which this novel is supposed to take place.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The performer was okay. I look forward to hearing her read some better material.

Connects to earlier novels
Revisado: 04-21-11
This novel includes a number of characters from an earlier series. Those who have read the earlier novels--the "Slightly" series, I believe, will enjoy this one more. Unfortunately, they are not available (yet?) on Audible.

Beverley's eighteenth-century novels are even better than those set in the Regency period. I wish more of them were available through Audible
