Historia
Ricky France-Lynch had a large crumbling estate, a nine-goal polo handicap, and a beautiful wife who was fair game for anyone with a cheque book. He also had the adoration of fourteen-year-old Perdita MacLeod who couldn’t wait to become a polo player. The polo set were ritzy, and gloriously promiscuous. Perdita was a brat who loved only her horses and Ricky France-Lynch…

Finally – I’m interested in a team sport!
Revisado: 11-23-24
Even after enjoying The Rivals, I wasn’t sure I’d like Polo, as I’ve never seen a game of polo or cared about team sports. And yet, the characters and their stories make it all interesting to the point of addictive. It’s mostly new characters, with some of the previous characters playing smaller (yet vital) roles. To some of us, the 80’s don’t seem like The Past, but you do need to read this as you would Ian Fleming, being amused not insulted by some of the outdated ideas and behaviors. I actually find it encouraging that we’ve come so far in my lifetime – I can listen to the words and laugh, just as I would at photos of 80’s hairstyles. Sometimes it is a horrified laughter. What were we thinking? And yet, you can still relate to the troubles and triumphs that seem to remain constant. For example, the difficulties of a working mother of teenage children.

Great fun! A lovely escape.
Revisado: 11-09-24
I enjoyed the depth of characterization and the humor often made me laugh out loud. I became quite invested in the characters, both the ones I loved and the ones I loved loathing. Brilliant performance by Sherry Baines. Her voice is both engaging and soothing. So it kept me interested and helped me relax, which is an impressive mix.

Historia
Returning to the territory he so brilliantly explored in his masterful New York Times best seller American Gods, the incomparable Neil Gaiman offers up a work of dazzling ingenuity, a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth that is at once startling, terrifying, exhilarating, and fiercely funny, a true wonder of a novel that confirms Stephen King's glowing assessment of the author as "a treasure house of story, and we are lucky to have him."

What can make a Neil Gaiman story even better? An absolutely fabulous performer to read it to you. This is a sequel to American Gods, and while you should read that as well, you could enjoy this one without reading that one first. Thank you to Neil and Lenny for singing us your song.

Amazing.
Revisado: 08-09-20
Although I was excited for the release, I did not believe they could make an audiobook to compare with the original books. (My favorite half of the story is told through the artwork.) Apparently, Neil Gaiman can do anything. I shall not doubt again and will expect something even more amazing on Netflix. Thanks to everyone who worked on this fabulous production!

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Excellent!
Revisado: 12-27-17
What did you love best about How to Fight a Dragon's Fury?
Wonderful conclusion to an excellent series. Like Harry Potter, the complexity of the characters, plot and theme develop as Hiccup grows. Fun, playful stories develop a deeper meaning.
What was one of the most memorable moments of How to Fight a Dragon's Fury?
I really was not sure how it would work out...the big final battle was surprising and believable, but not just a simple "and they lived happily ever after".
What about David Tennant’s performance did you like?
What's not to like? It's a full cast performance by a single person. An amazing range of characters are brought to life, with complete personalities, even more so than described in the books. Ranging from hilarious to touching to creepy. And also clear and distinct, which is very important for audiobook "usability".
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laughed often, cried at the end. The ending was happy...did I cry because it was over? Or because after 12 books, I felt like it was saying goodbye to a friend?
Any additional comments?
Thanks so much to Ms Cowell and Mr Tennant for creating this series. It has brought our family much happiness.
