Historia
People are less in touch with their bodies - and especially their breathing - than ever before. Ironically, athletes and others who pride themselves on taking care of their bodies actually put themselves at greater risk. Why? Because they’re asking their body to take on next-level demands, but failing at life’s most essential skill: efficient breathing.

Informative and Practical
Revisado: 07-06-24
Probably the best book on breathing I’ve read. I listen to it during my workouts. My sets are more focused and improved. Achieving an effective and efficient breathing pattern during all aspects of a workout, especially when lifting heavy to avoid injury, is so important.

Historia
More than 1,000 extraordinary Americans share their stories and the wisdom they have gained on living, loving, and finding happiness. After a chance encounter with an extraordinary 90-year-old woman, renowned gerontologist Karl Pillemer began to wonder what older people know about life that the rest of us don't. His quest led him to interview more than one thousand Americans over the age of 65 to seek their counsel on all the big issues- children, marriage, money, career, aging.

No Need for Another Self-Improvement Book
Revisado: 03-24-19
After listening to this book, I feel this is the last self-help book I'll ever need to read. I'm so glad Dr. Pillermer did all the research he did and wrote this book for the benefit of mankind. Our elders, which we will all be one day, seem to be kept away in assisted living homes, and along with them, all of their wisdom. This book is a gem and I will return to it probably every year.

Excellent Book
Revisado: 02-04-19
I read and listen to a lot of books. When this book showed up while on Amazon I saw all the 5 stars were yellow. That's impressive, I thought.
I see why. I'm really digging this book. The narrator did a great job too. This book will definitely be a best seller. Thanks to the author for writing it.

"You are only as old as you think you are."It's an old saying. But few people would take it seriously... even the scientists who are beginning to discover how true it really is have trouble believing their own findings. Yet study after study confirms that people can transform their bodies with their beliefs. The more we understand about the power of the human mind and spirit to create the life - and the world - we believe in - the more we discover how truly amazing reality is.

Great book. Classic in the field
Revisado: 08-25-18
Loved the book when I read it years ago and listening to it again was great.
There is however a real annoyance with the music that punctuates sections and chapters throughout. It is misplaced, bad, and repetitive. I found myself fast forwarding each time the music came on. Advice to recording producers thinking about doing something similar, don't.

Historia
Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

I Loved This Book
Revisado: 12-09-17
Fumio really nails it. This book goes beyond the basics of minimalism and into the realm of human nature in what it means to actually possess something; what it means to truly live without the constant need to acquire more things, and how we become happy almost spontaneously when we start getting rid of our possessions and live with only the essentials. I'm listening to it for the fourth times in about 3 months. The narrator has a great voice and it often reads like his is simply chatting over a cup of tea.

Historia
Decades before the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin lamented that English settlers were constantly fleeing over to the Indians - but Indians almost never did the same. Tribal society has been exerting an almost gravitational pull on Westerners for hundreds of years, and the reason lies deep in our evolutionary past as a communal species. The most recent example of that attraction is combat veterans who come home to find themselves missing the incredibly intimate bonds of platoon life.

Historia
Physician and biochemist Cate Shanahan, MD, examined diets around the world known to help people live longer, healthier lives - diets like the Mediterranean, Okinawa, and Blue Zone - and identified the four common nutritional habits, developed over millennia, that unfailingly produce strong, healthy, intelligent children and active, vital elders generation after generation. These four nutritional strategies - fresh food, fermented and sprouted foods, meat cooked on the bone, and organ meats - form the basis of the Human Diet.

The Urban Monk swears a lot.
Revisado: 07-05-16
I really enjoyed this book and found many great topics for myself and some I can share with my patients. I do however think the author should curb his cuss words. I am the first to use them in various situations but in a book like this? It just seemed incongruous and quite tacky. There was a lot of it. The author should realize that his readers are not only millennial who might find this cool, but I can assure him, it wasn't.
Pedram, you don't need to swear to emphasize your points. You are obviously very articulate and have an abundance of valuable information but I think you can take your writing to another level by omitting the poor word choices.

Historia
The year is 1878, peak of the Texas cattle trade. The place is Dodge City, Kansas, a saloon-filled cow town jammed with liquored-up adolescent cowboys and young Irish hookers. Violence is random and routine, but when the burned body of a mixed-blood boy named Johnnie Sanders is discovered, his death shocks a part-time policeman named Wyatt Earp. And it is a matter of strangely personal importance to Doc Holliday, the frail 26-year-old dentist who has just opened an office at No. 24, Dodge House.

The most Beautifully written book
Revisado: 04-17-16
I loved how well this book was written! I loved the historical setting and the detailed description of each of the characters. I felt like I was there with Doc and Catherine, and Wyatt, and the whole lot of them, as they lived their lives and struggled and laughed. Of the many fantastic moments, Mary's description of Doc playing Beethoven's Emperor on the piano, is downright BRILLIANT. If you love history, combined with a well written book and sublime prose, this is it.
I could go on, but you are better off listening to or reading the real thing.

Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?
