Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

Loved it. Jeanette McCurdy narrates her own story perfectly, and the content itself is relatable in a way that's unfortunate but ever so prevalent. It's a sad but empowering tale that's beautifully written.
Highly recommend.

Maybe this is a story about Jim Reacher...

...because this doesn't sound or read like a Jack Reacher novel.

Since book 1 I've listened to Dick Hill narrate and define the man that is Jack Reacher, and while I understand things change, this narrator doesn't bring him to life. At ALL.

Hill brings out Reacher's gruff and self aware personality out with such grace and style that his narration created the character I envisioned with his every telling. Hill's style, pacing and interpretation of each book was just as enthralling as the Reacher novel he narrated.

As for the story, it felt cobbled together. For all the belief expected of Jack's encounters, this story seemed rushed. His blind willingness to help felt disingenuous, and made him seem like a guard for hire instead of the decisively moral driven man he's read like before.

Please bring Dick Hill's Jack Reacher back, cause Jim ain't working out.

SPOILER ALERT:

I had no expectations starting this book, so I can't say I was disappointed. The tale of life after death (and things in between) was different and I appreciated that. I enjoyed the main characters, but I did wish that the love that the blossomed between Wallace and Hugo was more organic rather than forced. I didn't get a true sense of connection between them, and I really wanted to. Reading Wallace's change in personality was nice, but truly wished I got more of his connection to Hugo.

Not a bad read overall. It was enjoyable.

Amazing. The way the author presented this dynastic history captivated me more than I had anticipated. The organized detail reflects the meticulous research done in order to complete this book. The information doesn't become stodgy at any point. The narration is on point with the pacing and maintained an even tone that held my interest.
