Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

fascinating character driven plot
Revisado: 06-15-21
enjoyed the book for so much of the historical importance and many aspects of the scientific community and its relationship both with military and government. often found that it got snagged in the mining details of the communist aspects. Reading in 2021 - it's just not terribly interesting to fully understand all possible intricate relationships in the Chevalier affair

Historia
Tricked into a world of banished gods, demons, goblins, sprites and magic, Richter must learn to meet the perils of The Land and begin to forge his own kingdom. Actions have consequences across The Land, with powerful creatures and factions now hell-bent on Richter's destruction. Can Richter forge allegiances to survive this harsh and unforgiving world or will he fall to the dark denizens of this ancient and unforgiving realm? A tale to shake "The Land" itself, measuring 10/10 on the Richter scale, how will Richter's choices shape the future of The Land and all who reside in it?

just lame
Revisado: 03-07-18
it's not a good way to tell a story, it's a gimmick steeped in familiarity (whether the MMORPG aspect or cheap cultural references). I don't want to just keep trashing it, but after the insane number of positive reviews (which made me buy) I wanted to voice my opinion.

Historia
It is 1860, and while China seethes through the bloodiest civil war in history, and the British and French armies hack their way to the heart of the Forbidden City, Harry Flashman hoodwinks them all. Once again, that supreme anti-hero of the Victorian era, the one and only Harry Flashman, is ready to rise to the occasion no matter what depths of dishonor he must plumb. This is the inimitable Flashman at his very worst. And, as all Flashman fans know, that means he's at his irresistible best in this, his most exotic and erotic, uninhibited and hilarious adventure yet.

Flashman wins again!
Revisado: 01-08-16
If you're a fan of historical fiction, I find Flashman to be almost impossible to beat. Now, you're not going to tear up or get too terribly attached to any of the characters, but if you're looking a fun romp through time and battle (with a more than a few romps in the bed mixed in) Flashman is simply capital.

Historia
On a summer night in the arty enclave of Capitol Hill, Seattle, best friends Mickey Montauk and Halifax Corderoy throw one last blowout party before their lives part ways. At 23 they had planned to move together to Boston for graduate school, but global events have intervened: Montauk has just learned that his National Guard unit will deploy to Baghdad at the end of the summer. In the confusion of this altered future, Corderoy is faced with a moral dilemma.

Great Read that interweaves lives in a complicated, impactful way
Revisado: 12-01-15
I picked this book up thinking that it was your typical war coming-of-age novel, but it's actually a softer, more nuanced book that addresses the inner struggles of not just of the soldier, but the philosopher, the artist and the reporter as well. It's really quite well done in the way the characters' lives overlap and interweave, and the narration (which is done by both authors) provides a great entertainment value as they leverage their different tone and cadence with the appropriate parts of the story.
If you're looking for a solid novel with the spice of war, sex and personal identity, this is top notch.

Fascinating and Infuriating
Revisado: 06-02-15
Great book. Very well delivered history of how we got to where we are. It would be great to hear more on solutions that DO work, but that was not this book.
