The authors of this book have some really good ideas, so it's unfortunate the audio version was produced as it was. The paper book contains many, many pages of statistical surveys, & unfortunately the narrator actually reads each one VERBATIM. Even worse, most of them are really obvious, e.g. "Percentage of people who are happier as Entrepreneurs", AND there is one chart for men & one for women for almost each quesion, so you have to listen to each table of results TWICE. I gave up after a couple hours of listening to the reader drone on and on and on, went to the bookstore, flipped through & gleaned what I could use from this book in about 5 minutes. I would suggest buying the book if the ideas are new or helpful to you, but I wouldn't subject yourself to the audiobook.

Awful & outdated

This book desperately needs to be pulled off the shelf & revised after this year's mortgage fiasco. So much of the info is outdated or no longer useful. You can tell the market was starting to look questionable when the author wrote it, because he spends alot of time waffling & qualifying the book's advice. Alot of times it is laughable.

Another complaint, I think the title is a little misleading. A more accurate name for this book would be "Homebuying for Dummies" or something similar. It goes into great detail about the basic homebuying process, but the investment info is light & not very helpful. I DO like the author's other books, but unless you're looking for very basic info on buying a first home I would skip this one.

This was a wonderful book. It made me laugh so hard, & reminded me in so many ways of my own dog's puppyhood. The author is great at capturing the hilarious & amazing things that happen in everyday life. Loved it! Never wanted it to end!

Lots of stories, not much useful info

I think the publisher's description is misleading--this book is really more of a reporter's documentary about the history of retirement in the United States than ANY kind of a financial planning book. The author talks endlessly about case studies, stories and fictitious examples, but there is VERY little actual usable information in here. I would not buy it or read it again.

For a much better book about conscious financial & retirement planning, I very highly recommend "Your Money Or Your Life". It was far superior to this book.
