Historia
Bertie Jenkins has spent forty years serving as a midwife for her community in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Out of all the mothers she’s tended, none affects her more than the young teenager who shows up on her doorstep, injured, afraid, and expecting, one warm June day in 1943. As Bertie and her four sisters tenderly nurture Songbird back to health, the bond between the childless midwife and the motherless teen grows strong. But soon Songbird is forced to make a heartbreaking decision that will tear this little family apart.

Murder of your ears
Revisado: 09-10-24
Absolutely HORRIBLE narrator. The Native Americans are made to sound like baboons! The Africans are made to send like foolish rodeo clowns. The Puritans are fashioned after transvestites and the French sound like criminals. This could have been good but for the ridiculous and painful narration!

Gorgeous and pure!
Revisado: 08-08-24
A glorious tale based on the real story of the brave and courageous spirit of the least honored. Men and women forced to fight for basic human rights, driven by love for country and freedom from starvation by the tyranny of the US government. Familiar yes, since this government is literally built on the bones of the people it has raoed and pillaged. However, the love and faith that shines through in this novel springs forth hope for a better place!

Revisado: 05-19-24
An incredibly powerful and exhilarating tour of the The Book of Genesis, Egypt, and the Greek isle of Crete. A fantastic read for anyone interested in in the Bible, historical fiction or even just adventure! I super loved this novel and you will too! It’s an excellent way to delve deeper into difficult passages of the Bible as well; you can read this and then go back and reread parts of the Bible to be enlightened!

Inaccuracy of the story of Mary
Revisado: 04-17-24
The stories were okay until the last one. The last tale is about Mary and Jesus, completely inaccurate and incredibly disappointing. I couldn’t even finish the book. I started to get physical ill. I suggest anyone who reads this or anything by this author to read the *actual Bible and perhaps consult an *actual Theologian.

Butcher of the English language plus a great story
Revisado: 04-10-24
Wow! What torture! What intrigue! What a brutal combination! Halfway through I wish that I would have been keeping a tally of all the mispronunciations. The reader supposedly speaking for a native Louisianaian absolutely couldn’t even pronounce major cities or common foods. It was insulting. However, the story was so intriguing I felt morally obligated to the author to continue. I just hope she finds a new reader. Certainly she knows that a majority of great literary works hale from The South which in turn means that the average three year old can read the Old Testament with ease, much less a clearly written modern day tale.
